Thank you from a newbie
I will be visiting Thailand (Phuket) for the first time during the last week of May and the first week of June.
I have just wrapped up a bitter divorce in which I was awarded custody of my three kids. My doctor has advised that I should now "screw myself into a coma". I thought that sounded like good advice, so I began looking for a place that might help me achieve that goal.
Based on everything I have read on this message board, Thailand is without a doubt the place I need to go. If it is even half as good as you all say it is, I'll have a blast! I want to thank all of you who have contributed to this board. The information is extremely helpful especially for first-timers like me.
I will be staying at Summer Breeze and hope to meet some of you while I am there. Thanks!

Welcome to the board!
If my doctor knew I was going to LOS frequently he would ask a ton of questions which I would not like.

Thanks for the advice, banditx. The only plans I really have (besides the obvious) is to spend at least one day fishing and to make sure I have time to get myself fitted for a couple of shirts and suits. Otherwise, I plan to just roll with it.
I plan on making several trips to the Mai Thai bar, so I will be sure to look for you, ThaiLearner.
I'm a little nervous because the extent of my international travel so far has been Jamaica and Mexico. A 24+ hour flight to another continent will be something new for me, but I am excited. Based on what I have read on this board, I think the return flight is the one I will dread the most.
Thanks again, and I hope to meet some of you during my stay!

Welcome tnlawyer and if your Board name reflects that you are a lawyer from Tennessee you'll get on just fine in LOS (just don't tell the BGs you lich man - even if no more!)
You'll be able to bulldust the Aussies, confuse the Poms and fool the Scandies.
I'll try to catch you at MTB in June and we can talk fishing.
Enjoy your " Cure ".

I'm actually arriving May 25 and departing June 8. I look forward to meeting some of you while I'm there.
Shez21, I do have health insurance, but I'd be willing to bet they would deny that claim! I don't think they cover intentional, self-inflicted conditions.
Evilbaz, I will look for you in MTB sometime during that first week of June.
Does anyone have any experience using Kaya House for local tours? Their website looks promising, but that doesn't always mean the product is any good.

MWM - have you never had dealings with lawyers ( with all due respects to tnlawyer).
They are masters of a well-turned phrase and capable of " bulldusting Aussies, confusing Poms and fooling Scandies ".
What don't you understand and how can I help?

I think marriage is much more scary than international flying.
I only have domestic flight experience as part of international travel routes. You should be fine.
I have never flown in the US to a US destination...always a transfer to Asia.

Never really had the desire to go visit other parts. I used to use all my time off to take extra long weekends to friends place in Northern VT for fishing or going up to Montreal to party.
Since I strongly prefer Asian women(white don't seem right anymore), I think I am on the right track for holidays
