Karon nightlife
I have been to Phuket 5 times and allways lived in Karon. The first time in Phuket i didnt know where to go so it became Karon beach. Now I have some favourite hotels and bars here and I know the place. Ofcourse I have visited Patong and Bangla road 1-2 nights on every vacation but I have allmost everytime been there with my family and just 2-3 times with friends who wants to party Bangla road style.
This year I´m traveling with a friend and we want to party all night long. We are going in the beginning of april.
What is Karon like nowdays. I mean with the economic crisis and everything else. Is there any bars still open? I know that allmost everynight will end in Bangla road but sometimes it is nice to go out in Karon allso. Is there still some bars around the streets nearby the Karon circle? There was allso some bars in the other end of Karon allmost in Kata.
Is there some action still going on there? I know it used to be more relaxed then Patong but I dont want a empty bar, with no beer and no girls.....

If there are customers Sutin's Bar on the main drag will stay open till the last person falls. I know of plenty of times it has remained open until 8 or 9 next morning.

That sounds nice. I would have been disapointed if Karon was dead. I have hade many nice times on the bars in Karon. Both near the karon circle and on the other end near the Phuket Orchid.
Me and a friend will be there from the 4th of april.

Oh that sounds great. I like Karon very much. Maybe it is because Karon was my first meeting with Thailand and I fell in love on the first sight.
I think that we will miss Songran. Me and my friend are only their for a short time this year. Cant be away from work longer than one week but I could not stay away from Thailand so I had to take what i got and that was one week.
It is between the 5th and 12 april that we are staying in Karon.
I think it would be nice to meet some forum friends for a beer and share some tips about what you can do for fun in Karon/Kata/Patong!

Mr swede I had the same problem of falling for the first place I went in los and I too will be in Karon on the 10 april. If interested pm me for my contact details in los if you would like to catch up for a drink. I usually head for the bars in a small group about the second street on the left from the circle and then the next street up on the right as you head towards the temple.

When I moved to Phuket 13 years ago for work I stayed at the Karon Cafe for a month while I was looking for a place to live. Ended up loving Karon but settled for the Nai Harn area. If you are thinking about meeting up with other members around Songkran then pick a place and date and we can have a group drink together maybe at Specter's place on the bar Soi halfway between Kata & Karon. I'm sure that Michael will give directions and help if you want to set up a get together.

Thanks for the offer Michael and if you do manage to find the concentrated Sause or clam nectar we will wip up a batch of Canadian style Ceasars for the get-together at your bar in Karon before Songkran.

Guys, I am a newbie to both this forum and Phuket. I'll be there from 8th-13th April and this will be my First time ever. I'm staying in Karon and now I think I made a wise decision of getting a hotel there after rummaging through in numerous choices! It will be a great idea to catchup with you 'veterans' and learn some inside secrets abt the area!!!
Richard: I think u've already fixed a place but nobody has commented about the time...

I am super newbie. This is the first time I have tried this forum. I want to know a good place to stay in karen and in kata. So far, Otool's looks like a good deal in a good location, with electronic safes. I found it on a site that lists "girl friendly hotels". For patong, it looks like the consensus is "summer breeze hotel". What is the consensus for Karen and Kata? Karen and Kata look more like my style, instead of the hussle-bussle of Patong. Please don't flame me!

i have never stayed in Otools but you could not pick a better location
1 minute walk to the main bars, 3 minute walk to the beach
i know Otool's has good western food and Little Mermaid across the road from your hotel makes great burgers

I stayed in O’tools for about a week this winter, and it’s a very good choice. It’s without a doubt my favorite place to stay when in Karon.
But I didn’t like Karon at all this year. I found the girls extremely intense, and I never felt like I’ve been thrown to wolfs anywhere in Thailand like this year in Karon. When they see a single guy they’re all over him, and they seem to believe it’s his job to make the bar a profit that night. But the worst is all the people selling stuff. When the restaurant closes (and they even bother you when you eat) every single one of them moves to the bar area, and lots of them won’t take no for an answer. They walk around and around and around in this small area all night long. I’m not exaggerating when I say I had to say no to people selling stuff 2 times a minute. I ended up going to Bangla one night to get some quite!
Karon has changed, and I don’t believe I ever go back.

Look at Phuket Island View Hotel. Nice place, right across the street from the beach and a nice big pool. Far as I know it's still G.F. and has numerous bars next door. If you look on Latestays.com you can get it for 950 a night including breakfast.

I initially opted for Phuket island view courtesy rave reviews from travelers on almost all travel portals. But the bad news was, I was not the only one looking for a place to stay and so Island View resort is all sold out
Guys, any news on 'Get Together'? I am leaving for Phuket tomorrow.
Cheers!
