Newbies area
Ok,
A new section for newbies is created. No question is too "dumb" or "stupid" and no one will give you a hard time here.
Advice from old hands to LOS is welcome and appreciated.

As its a newbie area how about pin'ing or sticky some threads make a FAQ type thing..
In fact on another forum I moderate which covers huge amount of technical topics we have a Meta FAQ basically its one post thats sticky and locked that lists really good topics and posts and points / links to them..
That way you have a
How much to pay a BG -> 03-04-05
How do I stay longer than 30 days -> 01-12-04
What kind of phone card do I get -> 19-02-05
With the -> in our format bveing the link.. as it grows its very easy to keep sections and rearrange one single post and its very easy to point to valuable threads and info.. In fact the users themselves tend to say 'hey good one.. Nominate that for the Meta FAQ' etc so its kind of self working.. What interests the users get noticed and in turn gets linked..
The hard work is simply compiling good posts in the beggining.. If we all made some effort in one thread we could do this ourselves without making any time from Nicke who is obviously busy right now...
In fact I would be ok with attempting to manage it...

Hi All,
This is my first post, and may I say after reading the other posts I have picked up a lot of information.
I will be in Patong from 30 Apr - 10 May staying at the Baan Sukhothai hotel;
and I hope to meet some of the characters from the posts at the Mai Thai Bar.
My last trip was in Oct 04 staying at the Patong Merlin for 6 days, it took me 5 days to tune into how the place works. I should have read this forum first!

A sticky with al the abrevations used would also be good, as i still sometimes have to go back to other threads to find out what they mean!
Though i would of thought you would of thought of this allready! Just me saying the most apparent thing as usual!

Find the Tiger disco on Bangla rd.
Underneath you will see a collection of beer bars (Tiger Complex)
Enter on the left hand side and you will see a Bar called Love Bar
I believe you can quench your thirst there.
Watch out for the owner though..I heard he's a bit of a p1sshead and might lead you onto stronger drinks than cola

Don't worry just ask any question you like in this section and you'll get all the answers you need.
Start a new thread if you have a question.
This section is new so feel free to utilise it.

Think I've guessed most of them
BG = bar girl
TG = Thai girl
LB = Lady boy
BM = Board member
F*ck = The little paper cut you get on your tongue when you lick an enveloppe too quickly
Any more?

Hey mate,
They weren’t laughing at you, they were just laughing, there is plenty of fun to be had on this forum and after meeting some of the guys, BMs, they are crack ups and enjoy to laugh.
Ordering a BG+B bar girl and bourbon, sounds bloody good to me, you want rice with that?
Have fun and read heaps and learn.

First of I like to start out by saying that this forum rocks. I have learned a lot and it has helped me plan my first trip to LOS. I will be there in Sept for 3 weeks. I would like to be there sooner but I have to go to the UK for 3 months.
Now here are some of the questions that I have for the seasoned pro's..
I will be traveling by myself. Is there any groups that you can join up??
I have been many places and it's always weird when you know nobody.
If I can does anybody have good advice on a Hotel, one that is close to the beach yet far from the noise? I'm trying to find a place to relax but yet have a good time.
Thanks in advance

The Expat Hotel is a very short walk to the action and to the Beach. since it is at the end of a dead end side street it is pretty quiet, except at night when you can hear the bass speakers at Tai Pan disco booming, which makes it difficult if you want to take a night off from partying. There are also smaller hotels near the end of Soi Sansabai(across the intersection from Bangla, off Rat-U-Thit, of which the same can be said.
If you really want quiet, try the Karon and Kata area. Much smaller, quieter than Karon, and has hotels near the beach.

Loads of places if you want to get out of the Bangla crazyness back on Nanai..
I personally could never see the appeal of being where its always bedlam.. If you need a nights relaxing or have a girl more long term being in Soi Sunset or San Sabai just means every night is full on.
