Apply for a tourist visa before you leave home, that gives you 2 months, as a visa on arrival is only 30 days, depending on where your from. You can then either extend the visa at immigration here, or do a visa run.

Hi rudolph11
Welcome to the forum
Stevem has answered your visa question, now the others.
You do not need a certain amount of money in your account to enter Thailand
I'm sure a one way ticket is not a problem but why not buy an "open return" which will be much cheaperthan two one way tickets Regarding your phone,if its anything like the UK,as long as you have the call bar lifted for international use you can use your own phone in Thailand.Just turn it on at the airport and it will search for a new network. You would probably find it cheaper to buy a Thai simcard in Thailand and use that for cheaper calls.

Have a look at the link below rudolph,

Note the part that says you must hold a return ticket aslo a return ticket is usually a lot cheaper than buying a single but thats up to you.

Even though you are supposed to have a return ticket, I have never been asked to see my return ticket.

One-way ticket, however, can be very expensive, but not always. On my second tour, I bought two one way tickets because it was much cheaper than a round trip at that time(just before Christmas, booked at last minute).

Another good option is the open ticket, as was said before.

Another maybe better option is to buy a round trip ticket on China Airlines. You can pick a return date, but then change it whenever you want before that date and there is no charge for the change. Your ticket is good for one year only. So you get the same flexibility as an open ticket at no extra charge. Most of the Asian airlines offer this option to change return flight date also, but usually charge $150 to $200 for this privilege.

I know 2 people who have been refused entry to thier flight because they did not have an onward flight (return)... One of them argued he was travelling overland to Malaysia but no amount of explaining and grovelling worked.. The solution was to buy a cheap flight BKK to HK that he copuld use in the next year as he has to do that route..

Its the airline that does the checking at boarding not customs at arrival.

You are normally asked at checkin if you are travelling on a one way to prove onward travel from that country. Holding a visa, any type of visa for Thailand, "USED" to allow you to travel into Thailand on a one way ticket. Please check this, as things change with time.

The airlines check this because if a passenger that they have carried into a country is denied entry, then the airline is fined a considerable amount, and the passenger then becomes the airlines problem.
