Is it business as usual??

Thanks so much for the info on my previous post! I have confirmed my booking and will be making my way out to LOS on the 5th of december 2005! Does anybody know if the Burasari Hotel is in a quiet area or is it right in the mix of all the hustle and bustle?

Also i've been looking to find some pix of what the place looks like now, i tried www.phuket-photos.com but they last updated in march. Also has Phi Phi made the same progress as phuket? Is everything operating as usual?

I've read contrasting info with regards to transport in and around LOS, some saying bikes are cool and the other vouching for jeeps or cars. Are the drivers really that bad over there? What will a weeks rental on either of these modes of transport set me back?

I dont know about business as usual but Phuket is mostly up and running.. Phi Phi will take a lot longer..

Drivers are really that bad.. in the 2 years I have been here 2 contacts / mates have died and many many little incedents with some broken bones also.. Does it mean you cant do it ?? Of course not but be aware it is a high risk region..

A 'scooter' type bike will cost 100 - 180 per day depending on bike.. 140 for a newish wave 125s is about normal.. I think baby blade CBR 400's are about 400 - 600 per day with newish R1's etc being about 1k..

Cars / jeeps range from maybe 1000 per day to 1500 or so..

If you dont ride a bike back home, then dont think you can try and learn here. You will only probably end up in hospital, if your lucky. First timers should stick to cars, until they get an idea of whats going on.

Thumbs down

if you havent got experience of biking ,dont risk riding one in thailand
get a car or a jeep
just imagine falling off a bike with your new wife on the back too !not worth the risk!

I do make a concious effort to leave the 'blade at home.. Of course the best sessions are never planned so it gets tough..
