February in Phuket
I've been to Paradise (aka Phuket) twice, but both times during the low season--and loved it! I'd very much recommend going in the low season, for many reasons. My next trip, however, probably will have to come in February, but not by choice. So I've a few q's for the old hands and would love your input, even if it's only a matter of opinion:
How "high" of the high season is February? For example, I've heard that August is the "high" point of the low season. Is Feb more or less popular than other high season months?
What can I expect to pay for a guest-friendly hotel in Feb.? I usually pay about 500 baht per night low season, so long as I agree to see at one hotel 2 weeks or longer.
Do TGs expect more than the "going rate" bc it's high season (1,000 lt; 500 st)?
Generally, is all of Patong just packed, or is only a bit more crowded than during the low season?
Is the ratio of girls to guys similiar to low season? I know the total numbers of both are supposedly much higher...
Any other high season comments appreciated. What's it like? Pros, cons, etc. Again, I'm a low season guy so I'm a bit curious as to what high season entails.
Cheers
Note: I've already used the search function, but to no use I'm afraid on this specific topic.

Ok Apollo I'll atempt to answer some of your questions I've been in late Feb/ March before so hear goes.
1/ Feb would be slighly off peak /high from about Dec 20 to Jan 15 is absolute peak.
2/About 800/1000 bht budget hotel.
3/Can't really answer this one haven't been in high season for a few years latest talk would suggest yes.
4/Generally allot busier than low season all over Patong.
5/I think the ratio is slightly less in your favour but still plenty of girls around.
6/Feb is a good time to go weather wise check out Karon and Kata during the day wicked for swimming and hanging out much more action going on and more of an upbeat vibe about the place in general.
In general you may pay a bit more for hotels and the like but it's not allot in the grand scheme of things more of a party atmosphere and general good times to be had high season rocks.

Thanks, River. You answered each of my questions very thoroughly. Hopefully we can meet up in Phuket sometime!

apollo,
i dont think you would have to much more for the girsl. i think if a girl likes you, she would charge the same whatever month. that being said, it might be harder finding the girl you want, but i dont think so, i wouldnt worry. ive been in every season and have found many that i liked

While your and esp. River's input is terrific, I'm a bit disappointed I didn't receive more opinions (NOT that I'm looking for an opinion "I like more" than yours and River's). I wonder if that's bc I posted this in the newbies sect., even though I still see newbies posting on the other sections with questions and getting loads of responses?

I have been only once in Phuket in February, and it was this year. As it was less than 2 months after the tsunami I can not say it was a standard February month in Phuket. Nearly no tourists, cheap hotels. But very fine weather.

I prefer februar and march because no rain (usually) and not so packed like december (christmas).
In the highseason there are of course more farangs in phuket, but on the other hand much more girls, too. (Many of them have a break in low season. Stay at home in isaan etc.)
Last year in november/december i had a nice room for 500 bath a day. So you can find a cheap room in feb, too.
I myself don`t like the low season because to cloudy and sometimes raining.
But each to its own.

Thanks for everyone's input. Much appreciated
Hugos, that's terrific! I figured rooms couldn't be had during the high season for under 1000. Great news.
Diz, you've provided some great stuff in the past, especially re how to best handle the lovely ladies and other general tips.
Yes, of course River was very helpful, as always (although I rather doubt he appreciates being called "Shirley")
