Got myself a Thai girlfriend - help!

Hi I hope you guys can help me

I'm v.new to this whole "got myself a Thai girlfriend (TG?)" thing and could do with some words of wisdom from those who have been there, got the T-shirt etc

Anyway, where to begin ? I met my TG in May on my last trip. I would like her to come visit me in the UK but she doesn't have a passport. I'm hoping to get back to Patong to see her in a couple of months & stay for maybe 3 months (and who knows if it works out maybe longer), get to know her better & all that. She's said that we can sort out her passport when I'm over, but I thought we might as well get the ball rolling sooner rather than later

So my questions are:

1. How easy is it for her to get a passport ?
2. How long will it take ?
3. What's the process for getting her a visa to come to the UK?
4. Again, how long will it take ?
5. Any other advice on a long distance TG relationship

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

Hi mate,

This subject comes up quite often and seems to fire up quite a debate, so stand by for a variety of opinions!

To try and answer specifics:

1 A passport can be had fairly easily, when we did it she had to go to her home for paperwork. I would be very surprised if you got the ball rolling in your absence, it may well take your foot up her backside to make anything happen!

2 When I did this, there were a lot of hoops to jump through regarding visas, I think that has changed now and am sure that other BMs are more up to date than me. There was a wait of around six weeks for an interview at the embassy in Bangkok.

If you are determined (and can afford it), you should not have a big problem getting her a holiday visa these days, just tread carefully when answering questions; honesty is not always the best policy.

As far as advice on a long distance relationship goes, and this is just my opinion you understand, if you have found the right girl she will be utterly loyal, honest and devoted. These things have unique problems but if you are both up for it they can work; enjoy!

Steve

Passport:
Not shure, but pretty easy, maybe she has to go home and get some papers, and a couple of thousend for the passport. My girlfriend had no troubles.
Think the relationship depens on you, the girl and monny.
(If she is a bargirl, read this forum carefully)
Try get a Visa the next time you get to Thailand. (Norwegian Embassy has webpage with instuctions, maybe uk to?)
Phonecard or Skype saves you a lot of monny.
Good idee to stay long time.

Don't wait- do it now because if you wait it will prolong and she may give you excuse after excuse to send her more money to go to BKK etc
and she may tell you the government lost the papers etc; this is from dealing with many ladies;it should take about 2 months-not hard to get passport-hard to get a visa to UK and US but try;know her first; I have good lady but many guys get screwed;
