Newbie arr in November ( Questions ofc )
Hi all
Yea just another newbie on ya board looking for info
and advice
I will be arriving Nov 8 and staying 3 weeks, needles to say I have a few of these mandatory questions for you all, I will post them all here and looking forward to reading your answers...
1. I will be staying at Central Karon Village, is it a good place ? and I found out they charge 1000 bth a person/night in fees ( not really guest friendly or ? )
2. Would you recomend that I meet up with some more experienced ppl at the Mu Thai bar for advices, I am just a bit worried I get hooked up with some girls ripping me off.
I'll be coming down there alone, so I can do pretty much anything I like
but think I could do with some good company and a mentor of sorts

Dont recomend Karon (never stayed there) Patong is where the nightlife is. If you are going to take Tuk Tuk to Patong and back, and pay joiner fee at det hotel, you will save monny renting a room at a joiner fee free hotel in Patong.
If you reed this forum you will know what to pay, if you pay more you are beeing ripped of.
No reason you shouldn't go to Mai Thai Bar.
Injoy your hollyday. Prepare to want to come back

Scrap that Karon hotel and head to Patong instead, get a room at c&n, orchid, expat or any guest friendly hotel there and have a ball.
A hotel with a 1k bht joiner fee can be an expensive experience indeed, you might think you'll resist tempations, or keep them at a minimum.....ain't gonna happen
Always check out Mai Thai Bar, as always good times and good advice to be had there
As for girls ripping you off. Common sense and knowledge accumulated from this forum will go a long way, stack up on such and you'll be fine
Have a gr8 time

Svensken, I stayed at Central Karon Village first time in LOS, really nice quality and very romantic, set on a steep hill in jungle down to sea, make sure you get the reception staff to drive you to & from your room. You can walk along beach to get to Karon 5- 10 mins, which is fairly quite has some bars etc and will cetainly do for first couple of nights. Tuk Tuk into Patong takes 10 min at about 150 - 200bt, food, pools etc very nice just a little bit out of town. It is not guest friendly and they will charge up to 1000bt per night, I told them my girlfiend was coming to stay from BKK and she would be there several nights and whilst I didn't expect no charge would only pay 250 a night. They took this scam and only paid 250 each time brought different girl back ,they recorded it at reception. You cannot sneek by reception cos you need the guy to drive you down to your room, its not that you cannot walk it if fit but after two days walking up and down and as we had been attacked by a preying mantis, seen a spider as big as your hand, a monitor lizard thing as big as a dog and clocked a snake as big as a snake, who cares how big it was, it was a snake!!!.
Have a few days sussing out the area and scene then definately call in MTB etc to discuss with other BM's, I think although new and open to certain bg scams it is all the fun of finding out for yourself, if you meet others too soon a lot of what they will tell you will not make sense cos you havn't experienced any of it yourself and you will ask questions that within one day you will realise were naive. You will have a great time, meet loads of people, experience a great culture and .........well the rest you can find out.

Hi Svensken
Welcome to the board.
You have had ,and acted on good advise so far and only lost a few euros which you would have lost on your first hotel guest fee.
Before you book your hotel, read the "Accommodation" section and try to get an idea of what sort of hotel you want,ie location ,price ,facilities and obviously guest friendly. Next compile a list and ask further questions to be sure its what you really want. Then book it
On no account forget to visit MTB which is on right hand side of Soi Eric on Bangla Rd. Apart from making friends there, you can get loads of good advise from other BMs and Nicke the owner and webmaster of this site.
Feel free to ask in this section anything you need to know and it will make your visit all the better.
