1st Visit to Thailand.. Need Some Info.
I had some concerns about my 1st visit to Thailand. Please answer as many of these questions as you can. Appreciate the help.
1. I realize Thailand is not a very wealthy country and nor are the people. If they saw me as a "rich foreigner" would that put me at risk of being robbed of money/passports/my life? 2. What is the difference between Bar Girls and GoGo Girls? And which would be the better or best place to pick up women in Pattaya or Phuket? 3. I'm in my 20s, and I've had very limited experience with prostitutes. I feel a little paranoid about this, but besides wearing rubbers is there anything else I can do to prevent getting STDs? Is it possible to contract anything from getting a BJ from the girl or cunnilingus? 4. If I took a Bargirl for a LT and went back to the same bar the next day to get a different girl, would the girls look down on me for doing this, or would it be a problem or is it expected that guys normally come back for more women? 5. I'm going to Thailand to meet as many women as I can, and only women. Are ladyboys very difficult to distinguish from real women? I mean isnt it possible to distinguish them by the way they look or their voices? I am not into that sort of thing, and would hate to accidentally pick one up by mistake? Any tips? 6. You are new, and you won't see the differences in the beginning. Smell them and look at their hands. Avoid big hands.

Regarding # 6
I am also an american and also close to your same age. I have never had any problems in Thailand except for the occasional taxi driver trying to get a few hundred extra baht for a fare. Over here we get quite a few sensationalized reports regarding foreign countries...but just be aware these are more to get good news ratings rather than public service announcements. You will not find yourself a target other than for people trying to sell their goods and services to you as a rich farang tourist. (Oh and I get less crap for wearing my red sox t-shirts and the like over there.) That being said, I personally wouldn't travel to the far south, just because of the recent violence. I doubt this is the first place you have on your itinerary anyways. Read up on things. There is a ton of valuable information on this site!

travel warnings posted by US government for most countries are for the US government to cover their ass to keep US citizens from suing the US government if something happened to them while they were overseas and they had not been warned.
The warnings for IRAQ, Afghanistan, and other hotspots are valid. The warnings for Philippines and Thailand are all CYA by US government. Just like Magnusvv said, do not go to Southern Thailand and you will be fine. No more problems than your normal town in US and less than LA, New York, Chicago, Miami or any other big city in US. Just act like you know what you are doing, walk on main streets and use public transportation, try to stay coherent at the end of the night, and don't take any drugs while in Thailand. Go go MTB and talk to Nicke and the BM's there and get the current info from them after you arrive. Don't walk around with too much money, take just enough to get by at night and a little extra, and don't flash a big roll of cash. Have a great time.
