Phuket Thailand - Greetings to all .. ok to just hang out at bars?

New to the forum and happy to be here. This is a great forum and a well deserved congratulations to all mods.

Will be visiting LOS in August with family. WIfey says sure you can hang out at the bars if you want! Her only rule is no bar fines. So I was wondering if this is acceptable? I mean, is it ok to just hang out and have a few drinks and if I happen to fancy a bg's company, would it be rude of me to decline any invitations to bar fine that might arise? Just wondering ...

hi spectrum welcome to the boards! its no problem at all to sit at the bars either on your own, or with your wife/family--
the girls will talk to you no problem
dawsey, a fellow poster here goes with his wife and 2 girls and has a great time
if you go alone to a bar and you want a quick "liason"with a girl thats no ploblem too !(don,t forget to visit the mai-tai bar !

Hi and welcome to the board.

You can sit and drink in most bars without worring about being hassled. If you feel you are being hassled and feel uncomfortable, then just pay your bill and move on.

If you are chatting with bargirls, then they are doing part of their job in entertaining you at the bar. If you buy them a drink, they do get a part of the takings.

Hi spectrum,

Welcome to the board.
Just a little post to confirm what has been said already. Of course, you can have a drink in any bar, chat with any girl and then leave without problem. If you chat with a girl or play games with her, it would be nice to pay her a "lady drink" or two (100-120 bath and she takes her commission)...if you don't do, she will ask sure

but you will have a lot of fun while doing it as all of them are so friendly.

Team up with another BM Tin Tin....he is also married and goes to the bar just to drink and chat

Strange as it may seem, I occasionally take a "night off" and just go down to some of the bars for a few beers and a perve. If the girls know this there is no probs, buy them the odd drink and just have fun.

Then I end up drunk and all the good ideas go out the window.

Now at the risk of sounding terribly "wet behind the ears" and having acknowledged my "newbie" status, I do have one curiosity. I've seen references in this forum as well as other web sites regarding "ringing a bell" at beer bars? Again, please excuse the ignorance here, but would anyone care to enlighten this poor newbie?

Ringing the bell is a Thai custom especially for newbies to enjoy.
Its best to wait until the bar is full,then ring long and loudly. It will ensure you get plenty of attention,especially from the girls and other BMs

When I first went to Patong I think I rang more bells than Quasimodo , it's great fun and the girls will love you for doing it.

I agree with ditz just going for a drink or two is fine as long as we are clear in the first place. Most places BG's don't get a salary from the bar. Instead they get 30-50 baht a drink usually if the drink 120 baht plus; they get half the bar fine (100-150 baht). What we pay directly they keep. If it costs about 7,000 baht a month for a BG to live here (1,500 a month for a shared room; 200 for electricity; 200 for telephone; 3,000 for food; 1,000 for make up/clothes;1,000 for transport) and most need to send home at least another 7,000 a month (usually much more)...that's either 10 drinks a night; or 93 bar fines; or 14 customers every month...Least we can do is tell them whether we are buying or not.

Indeed! Thanks for your input. I definitely appreciate the fact that the BG's presence at the bars is work and I am definitely in favor of adequate compensation for their time. I was just concerned about attiquette and protocol, if you will. THanks again and cheers!

Most girls who work in a bar do get a salary.. Can be room + couple 1000 or 5000 or so no room.. Very few places where you would pay a BF would be getting thier girls on LD drinks only..

Otherwise they are freelance and free to roam around (as many girls you see in bars in general are) and not restricted to staying there full time..

What do you base that figure on?......l always thought they just send home what they could, and not a set amount......l am not saying l know, just asking the Q

If a girl earned 10,000....she might only be able to send home 4,000....but if a girl was a Superstar and earned 30,000....she might be able send home 20,000.....wouldn't it be a case by case scenario....l would guess there would be a lot of girls not sending as much as 7,000 home.....there were girls l saw night after night who were not even talking to guys let alone getting Bf'd so l am not sure how much they would be making....maybe l am wrong ?
