Mail, post etc to Thailand

I guess many regulars here know sending mail or stuff to LOS can be risky or at best slow.
I've seen the question rised on this forum quite a few times on how to send stuff or have it delivered, so thought I should share this.

Wanting to send some stuff to Nonthaburi outside Bkk. I considered snail mail but since there is a danger it'll be really snail, or worse not get there at all I checked other options.

I then looked into DHL, wanting to send this stuff from Bergen, Norway it was not that long way to their office.

Delivered my parcel, filled out papers, gave them adress as well as recepients phone # and went on my merry way, it cost around 70 euro btw.

I used the number on receipt to track the parcel through the dhl website, this morning it arrived Bkk so I sent her a sms saying it was not far away, she had allready received phone call from them and explained where to drop it off.

45 hours after I delivered it to DHL she was handed it outside her house, guess she felt exited and pretty important then cause she was extatic and could not belive how fast it was, and hassle free I might add.

Was kinda surprised myself if I'm honest

Was using snake mail every time. Price for a small parcel about 25 Euro. Airfreight. Takes about one week to reach thai countryside. Never had problems.

Yeah I tend to use UPS for docs now (800 baht to Europe).. But EMS for parcel post (7 - 10 days registered)..

UK 'air' parcel post gets here in about the same 7 - 10 days but it it has any value at all it has to be registered.. Normal surface mail parcels can be 6 - 12 weeks..

Guess purely flight time would be around 13 hrs add 1 to 2 hrs to get from airport to Nonthaburi, but always takes time with connecting flights and most of my trips are 20-22 hrs from doorstep to doorstep.
Then you have included going to and from airport, check in and waiting for connecting flight, all of that is a drag....once leaving Amsterdam heading for Bkk it is purely bliss

The company i work for uses either DHL, TNT or fed-ex, depending on what territory its being sent to, for the reasons mentioned above. So its secure and trackable at all times. Works out alot cheaper than sending by a personal courier! They usually use DHL for much of Asia.

Well if I'd taken the DHL route it would have taken much longer
Was impressed with the tracking, easy as peas and as you see they have been fairly efficiant considering it is not a "direct" route, of course that is cost efficient too..
Too bad I wasn't there to see the look on her face or the neighboars when the DHL van pulled up

i sent a package to my old gf, ao in italy. i had a bunch of dvd's that i wasnt watching anymore and she said she had 1 dvd that she watched everyday, so i sent her a bunch of dvd's, some thai pop magazines and some thai cd's. i sent it through ems about 3 weeks ago and the post office in italy has held it up. it was funny, she was trying to explain that the post office was holding it, explaining to her it could be a bomb. she kept on saying"they think it go "boom". so hopefully she gets it the next couple days. her husband is going to go to the post office and try and get it

If you bought those DVD's in US, fat chance she can't see them. Copied Thai DVD's might work.
