First Time in Phuket

Next week I will be arriving in Phuket for the first time, mind you it's not my first time in the LOS, as this will be my sixth trip in 5 years. I just thought I would try for a change of pace from the BKK to Pattaya BG rollercoaster. I had been to Samui on a previous trip and thought about returning but it really did not hold that much interest to me. Phuket just seemed right and I want to experience it for all it has.

Based on my reading of all your postings I can foresee no problems what so ever. My days will be filled with golf and island hopping and the nights are held exclusively for the pursuit of the not so elusive BG/GF.

This trip is a retirement present to myself as I transition from one phase to another. I have seriously thought about staying in Thailand on this trip but will wait another five years so I can get the 50 and older visa. I will make my way down to the Mai Thai Bar and say hello to those BMs in attendence.

Less than 96 hours and I'm in the air !!!!!

You will have a great time no doubt......make sure you challenge Nicke (owner of Mai Thai Bar) to a game of golf.

I must be up front here, I carry a two handicap in golf and simply love the game. To me it's a way of life and I wouldn't want to do without it.

I like thinking about the Austin Powers movies because my trip is going to be shagadelic baby !

Make sure you bring both of your putters, daytime and nightime, and that they are in good shape. Take the sock off of one but make sure you put it on the other one when you play .

That's some words of wisdom there Seafox. Have putter, will travel, and always with the old cover. And the old putters are both straight and true, no funky devices required.

Hello golfthai and welcome to the board, you seem pretty serious about your golf, are you going to bring your own clubs with you?? i enjoy a game but renting the metal sticks from the course made my game suffer a lot, played with a few BMs and was not able to show them my true potential.
myself and dodger are planning at least 9 holes over the next couple of weeks, perhaps you would like to join us??
would be nice to see how another low handicapper copes with PCC, as there is lots of water.
see you there.
Simon

p.s i am not actually good and play to a 14 handicap back home

anybody who has a handicap of 14 and loses approx 7 balls in 9 holes really is not very good, and going out to a 9 holer and hoping to break 50 is not really setting my targets very high, but the golf i have played in LOS have been some of my favourite days and always look forward to the next half round.

Balls in LOS are sold in bags of 5, your not very confident when you actually buy 2 bags for 9 holes, but unlike dawsey i did not have to buy another bag half way round just incase

anyway dodger i blame the clubs, at least this time we shall both be playing with spalding 20 year old sticks.

I have given a lot of thought to bringing my own clubs but the cost of replacement does not add up when only playing a couple of rounds, and the added extra weight to lug around in various airports. I'd be honored to play golf with a couple of the BMs.

Besides, I only play golf in the LOS so the caddie can clean my balls when the round is over.

Si, just seen that Golfthai will also be renting the turkey clubs so as we know the course and have our special relationship with all the staff, we will be nice and handpick a special set for him.

That will bring him down to our level!!

I usually bring my whole clubs. With Thai Airways there are no extra costs involved until your bag is not 30kg's heavy. Im down in Phuket 3 Weeks beginning on the 15th of September. Would be pleased to play some Golf with some BM's. I usually play every 2nd day and go for 18 Holes.

S1mon, you are Scottish (access to all those lovely courses) You play off 14 (which I thought was good, not being a golfer) and you say you are not actually very good?

Me thinks you wear a sombrero, smoke cheroots, carry a six shooter and hide behind cactus!

I'll partner you!

I will present you to my former caddy. She's very good (for golfing advice). Scottish caddies are hansome compared to her.
Allways bring my own clubs.
Maybe we have some Chinese handicaps on the board. (When playing in competition or for money scoring 10 under their official handicap).
