Returning to phuket in Nov 05

Just got a couple of questions as i haven't been able to find pictures or any info about patong.

Are there still money changers on patong? Is the one near patong merlin still there? Where is the closed money changer to the Holiday Inn?

Is the supermarket next to the patong merlin open?

Is the bar still there that was just outside the Holiday Inn on the beach front?

Yes that is the one
It was very popular sports bar.

They had a atractive view over the bay
and it was nice just to sit with a cold one and look at the sunset.

I was last there in May and most of the casual beach road stalls on the opposite side to the beach were not there anymore-as were some of the buildings that were lost with the Tsunami-many of these are now under reconstruction.

There are however tons of stalls/shops still open and there is that whole open air shopping area with the huge open TV screen (ride in on yer bike) where they show footbal matches etc opposite the back of the Hoiday in on 200 Pee/Rat-U-thit Rd.

As for money exchange-why not use ATM (machines are aplenty on bangla) like everyone else. It's like sending a letter via post when you have email??

Cos my bank likes to take good amounts for fees when taking money out overseas.... therefore rather use money changers.

Seems to be alot of ppl changing there holidays from bali to phuket...... but some travel agents are saying that this is more risk going to phuket than to bali now

Sure the bank takes a small ($5 in AUS) transaction fee when you use an ATM however they give a much better exchange rate and unless you are changing small amounts ie less than BHT5K each time you will certainly be better off with the ATM unless you have found an honest money launderer (sic) Also card much safer than carrying cash
