L&S Kamala Bay Village?

Hey, all -- Newbie here.

I'll be in Phuket this year for Xmas & New Year's -- first visit; I had an 18-hour layover in BKK a couple of years ago during SARS and have been aching to return ever since.

First post and first question:

Is anybody familiar with L&S Kamala Bay Village? It seems relatively new and I found a GREAT rate over the holidays. It's a bit removed from the action but I'd like at least a couple of days of peace & quiet while there.

Anyway, I'm interested to know what others think of the place. Opinions good & bad would be helpful (hard to tell from hotel websites). If I end up staying there, what would be the recommended way to get to & from the hotel to Patong, etc.

Cheers!

Cheapest way will be to rent a motorbike for 150baht a day or 1000 a week. TukTuk is going to cost you probably 200baht each way to Patong.

Place looks reasonable. Im going back in March and want to stay in Kamala as well. Would be interested on what you think of it if you decide to stay there. Whilst I was there in Nov I had a look at this place www.kamala.se its right on the beach and the rooms are clean but nothing special.

Have a good trip.

Hi mjochim,
Although I am not that familiar with Kamala Bay Village I think it might be a bit too far from the action.
It's at the far end of the beach from Kamala township. Kamala itself is fairly quiet although with enough bars to keep you happy.
You may be able to get to Patong on a motorbike but I would not recommend returning on one. If you are drunk it is a very dangerous trip anywhere in Phuket, let alone on the windy road between Patong and Kamala.
I doubt if you would be happy to be alone for more than 1 day with all those attractive LBFMs waiting for a hansum man like you to walk by.
It will be quiet enough staying in an hotel closer to the centre of the action in Kamala and the beach is always close by.
I have a small bungalow in Kamala that I stay in when I go there every 3 months so I am reasonably familiar with the township.
Steve.

Had a great stay at L&S. It's on the last hill before you get to Kamala and is run by an Italian man and his Malaysia wife. They had their grand opening only one day before the tsunami hit -- talk about bad luck -- and then opened the place up to about 200 refugees. There are only 10 rooms, they are very large with hot water, cold a/c, satellite TV, etc. A nice open-air restaurant and covered pool table with future plans including a swimming pool, massage parlor, etc.

Guests really are made to feel like one of the family --- and they are very accepting if you want to bring back a BG to stay (I picked up one from Let's Go Bar on Soi Eric my very first night and she was given a free breakfast in the morning!). In fact, on New Year's Eve when I came downstairs before my planned trip into Patong, the owner wife had two girls waiting for me to choose from. The one I picked ended up staying in my room with me for the next week (no extra charge). That's what I call room service!

Yes, it is a bit removed from the action but they offer motorbike rentals or one of the helpers will take you wherever you want to go for a minimal fee (less than what the motorbike taxis in Kamala or Patong will charge you). Or, just walk up to the road and hail a tuk-tuk (usually 100 Baht into Kamala, 200-300 into Patong depending on your negotiating skills). To return, be prepared to describe the hill and tell the driver it's not actually in Kamala as many drivers aren't familiar with it's location yet (4 km from Patong, 1 km from Kamala). They also got me some very good rates on local tours (paying Thai prices rather than farang prices).

I'm already planning my next trip (probably in four or five months from now) but as much as I liked L&S, I'll probably get a place right in Patong next time to save on the tuk-tuk costs (which can add up over time). I may spend a weekend or two at L&S to visit with the owner and get a bit of peace & quiet...

I stayed in the katathani hotel at kata noi bay and would never take again a hotal that far away from the center. spend a lot of money for taxi also.
But very nice ressort http://www.katathani.com

I´ve got also upset as the shuttle service promised at there site when booking not really exists. good hotel for relaxing with the family but not for a guy like me, going around like a bus shuttle.
