*First time in Thailand advice please*

Firstly fantastic forum just what I needed....''

Secondly should of posted here as I'm a newbie but here's where I'm at,

Going to Bangkok with a connecting flight to Koh Samui within an hour or two of landing which is booked and paid for: Jan 7th 2006 going for one month.

I'm going for the girls and the nightlife simple as that.

Now I'm told from my previous post in the Koh Samui forum that I really need to be spending my time in Phuket/Patong if my main intests are the girls etc

I am to understand that Phuket/Patong are the places to be for my time given what I am going for.

So should I forget the connecting flight to Koh Samui and go to either Phuket/Patong after landing in Bangkok?

Need to make a real decision here and any feedback on this would be a great help.

Or will I find everything I need in Koh Samui I worried as I hear its also a bit of a family holiday place how true is this?

You will probably get a lot of conflicting views here, some people love samui, some don't.

For starters there is BG action in Samui, but I would venture to say there is more choice in Patong. I have been to both and, personally, I prefer Phuket.

I would be bored if I had to spend a month in Samui, 1 week tops is enough for me.

But as they say in Thailand "Up to you".

Whatever you decide I am sure you will enjoy it!

If you want it quiet then go to Samui, there are bars ands girls but not as many as Patong. I did both as I needed a rest after Patong. If its only girls you want then go to Patong there are so many too choose from.

Enjoy

Phuket is an hours flight from Bangkok, Pattaya is a couple hours drive from Bangkok. If your not into nightlife and the girls, then dont goto Pattaya.

If you have already booked and paid for a flight to Koh Samui, then I would still go.Why lose the cost of a flight?
As you are staying for a month, give it 7/10 days in Samui then head for Patong,Phuket.

Wherever you choose I'm sure you'll have a great time

Your right I have already paid for the flight to Koh Samui,

So this seems to be what I'm looking to do I will go to Koh Samui but only stay there for a few days maybe 5 or 6 days to get me used to Thailand.

I'm sure there will be fun to be had there....

And then I would go straight to Phuket/Patong

Clearly from feedback this is the place to be now I'm really looking forward to going!!

After that get back to Bangkok maybe a couple of days before I fly home

I'm there a month so yes should really lap it up....cool

Now will read up and make a book to carry for mainly the prices of the girls and hotels etc at least as some sort of guide so I don't get ripped off!

Including taxi prices!

i've been to samui, staid at lamai that's a little bit more quiet then chaweng
had a great time also good looking girls but then no gogo's
and if you don't like samui there are direct flights with bankok air from samui to phuket me personaly love phuket but if you need some rest and good female company go to lamaibeach and in lamai let your masseuse come to your room (ask for a young one) for 200thb they come to your hotel and in the room you can ask the girl for some extra service 500-1000 thb and you have a good holliday start 555555555

i hope this a silly question for you ,but have you made sure you have enough time on your visa?
anyway for what its worth i liked samui , but i thought the was not as much choice of b.gs and the green mango area was full of the type of people the you see at raves etc dressed like new age hippie types(may be im getting old)
still lots of fun to be had though.
but yes Patong is a much better set up.

Hey I remember the days when I used to love a rave and everything that goes with it......never believed I would change but time waits for no man...''

The body changed and the mind followed I get my kicks in different ways these days, anyway if I'm honest I would hate to really go through that again makes me tired just thinking about it!!

On an important note if I fly from the 7th JAN 2006 and return on the 7th FEB I would not need a visa because its less than a month because I'm in the air travelling if that makes sense?.

Also you need your passport with at least 6 months left on it when you first travel my expires in July 17th 2006 so again should be OK?

I`m no expert, but logic would suggest that the visa starts the moment you get it stamped when you enter the airport, and ends the moment you pass through checks in the the airport when you are returning home but try the guys here www.thaivisa.com

If you are entering on a tourist visa exemption you can always extend it (for ten days, I think).

Tourist Visa Exemption is just a fancy name for a 30 day visa on arrival which UK citizens can get. looks from your dates that you will be one day over , no problem , just pay excess fee at passport control on the way out.

Samui vs Phuket

Imho Samui aint a patch on Phuket when it comes to girls nightlife and tourists.
Green Mango has about 30 bars and 1 end is aimed at young backpacker types (and there are shitloads of them) the other end is girlie bars but there is just not the same kinda atmosphere you get down Bangla.
We saw a lot of young guys being very disrespectful towards bargirls and my wife and I hated that.
The only highlight for us was watching 2 gobby Aussies getting a hammering from an English bar owner, strange nobody saw anything when the police arrived lol and me chasing a guy for his unpaid bar tab earning us lots of free drinks at that bar every night.
If you want girls, nightlife and friendly tourists go to Phuket, if you want drugs, a younger tourist and more low key girlie scene go to Samui.

The beach is nice though

Dave

You enter Thailand on the 8th, so that is when your countdown starts

Don't worry str8_dave I'm going to Phuket no doubt there just will do 4-5 days in Samui because I am paid already for the plane ticket this end.

Anyway it will still be nice to see the place if only to help me appreciate Phuket and how much better it is....

Allybabba22 thanks for the info mate....''

Starting to make better plans now and not so worried about going and being a complete numpty thanks again for all help from everyone in this thread.
