Shooting Range for IPSC Shooters?

Hi there

As an IPSC Shooter, I am wondering wheter the shooting-range is equipet for that. And how about discounts? On an average IPSC Stage you easily shoot about 60 Rounds within 2 minutes!

I read somewhere that 10 rounds 9mm are alreay pretty expensive there... 690BHT

Strange as in Switzerland I only pay about 70 BHT for 10 rounds...

Both Kathu and Phuket Shooting ranges are equipped with IPSC targets, poppers and plate racks. There were IPSC RO's available on both ranges, when I was there, and I shot a couple of small stages. When I was at Kathu range, a group of IPSC shooters came on and practiced for the Thailand IPSC championship taking place a couple of days later.

Ammo is bloody expensive, youre a tourist, you pay tourist prices, thats how I got it.

Comig back in a couple of weeks, I will look into gunownership and such for Expats, which is basically impossible, but if you have a wife or girlfriend, they can own it and you can take it to the range and shoot it. At least thats how a policeman at the range told me, when I asked him about it. I will have to look into that more when I get back.

What kind of guns do you get to use on those shooting ranges?
Any automatic?

I shot 100rds 9mm from a CZ75 at Kathu and 50rd .45 Cal from a Colt with a C-More at Kathu.
I think they have a small selection of revolvers and autos at each.

When i was in Pattaya a year ago, a guy came up to me on the beach advertizing for some shooting-range. He showed me pictures of machineguns and automatic rifles
I never got there, but if i dont remember wrong i think it was on some island nearby...

Actually at both ranges they had a good selection of weapons. From airrifle and .22 Cal to M16A1's, and a small selection of pistols and some revolvers.

Gun ownewrship is tough.. Also I am unsure about how simple it would be for your GF or wife to legally own a weapon for your use.. I would suspect that it would not be something a younger woman or person without thier own local tabien baan would be able to do..

When you get here let me know and I will introduce you to a contact for the Kathu range who can guide you on what can or cannot be done..

Hi Lightemup

Thanks for your information. Where ist that Kathu Shooting Range? It would be great to train together with the local IPSC's... the CZ75 would be good for me to shoot with although I normally use a cheap Glock17...

Has anybody yet negotiated about a discount when using 100 rounds and more?

Wheres the Kathu Range and what was the prices again mate - Is that the one you see a sign for as you approach the last hill before going down into Patong.

I will also be doing some shooting whilst I am there - Mainly pistol and revolver work - Do you know if they qualified instructers for lessons and the likes as I mainly know how to use rifles, smgs and the likes and the old handgun has never been on my play list that much (Know enough to use it and hit something but would like to take it to another level lah)

BTW got to use the H&K MP7 and FN P90 for a couple of thousand rounds each a couple of weeks ago (Your right its always nicer when you get rounds free issued to you - The prices in Patong are a little annoying but like you said its a tourist thing). Nice weapons both of them but I would prefer the MP7 as I found it easier to take aim accurately and it had less lift on full auto. Are you using these or are you sticking with the AR-16 in Iraq - Our tests showed they do as much damage to ballistic steel plate as a standard M193 round and they rip the crap out of body armor plus cause a nice body cavity bubble as well (basically even an ass shot will kill becuase of the shock mah)...

LIL.
I think I might have talked to him when I was there...It was a little, old, short, black haired, thai fella, right?
Ok, lets narrow it down, he is an undercover cop, one of the two thats actually working UC, right?...Anyway, I spoke to a guy that fits that profile and he was very helpful. So that basically I have to find a chick that I can buy a gun for, so I can use it for shooting

Scubafun and Bafana.
I was a bit hung over, but I think we (Tuk tuk driver and I) went up the hill from Patong, down the others side, I think and hung a left at some point. There was a weird waterski / skilift thingie going on just next door to it.
I would imagine just telling a tuk tuk driver "Kathu Shooting Range" should do it.Prices are outrageous for tourists. They list bullets in sets of 10 and for 9mm I think it was somehting like 600-700 bath for 10.

I'll stick to the Browning 9mm.

In june it was something like 650 for 10 - 9mm, shot with my sister in law for fun but wouldn't normally bother for that kind of money.

That wasnt the guy but never mind.. My mate is a close friend of Kathu range owner.. I am told that if I get the into that prices for rouns can become a fraction of the official price, dont know if thats a one off or a regular feature etc..

Yeah looking at it its cheaper to join the Sillypore Rifle Association and shot here at 10-20 c sing a round as compared to 2.70 dollar sing a round.

I am going to give it a big miss me thinks - Not worth it lah.

Up on Second Road underneath the Tiffany's Show is a rifle/handgun range.I don't remember any thing fully automatic and at the price of ammo I'd have emptied my wallet as quick as the magazine anyway.I fired a 9mm then a .45cal handgun.
I used to own a browning .22 target pistol 12 shot mag. which was a lot of fun because you could do a lot of shooting for a few bucks. Also had a friend's Ruger .357 for about a year.Nice revolver when someone else is buying the ammo!

Yeah I might have to take you up on that offer.
When I was at the Phuket Shooting Range they said I needed a work permit to be a member. Which I told them, that was not going to happen.
