Police chase youth who threatened volunteer with gun
Boonlua Chatree
A report that a youth was menacing a volunteer police officer with a gun at Soi Arunothai 4 resulted in a turnout of over 50 volunteer police officers who chased the offender along Pattaya Klang Road.
The suspect turned into Soi 8 beside the Carrefour department store, which is a dead end road, and he was arrested. Police identified him as Wichaiyut Pansa-Ard, age 20. They found an unloaded firearm that Wichaiyut had dropped about 2 meters away from where he was seized. The weapon was unlicensed and police kept it as evidence.
Wichaiyut said that he carried the gun to protect himself and that he didn’t have any intention to injure anyone. He said that the firearm was pressing uncomfortably against his body, and that he had removed it and then put it back again. That was the action that the volunteer police officer had seen, and because he was scared of getting into trouble he had fled. Police charged him with carrying a firearm in public.

weight of numbers
i can understand the pattaya police being a bit jumpy lately.
about 2 weeks ago during a drug sting a policeman was shot dead by some drug dealers.
i think anybody with what looks like a gun near the police is going to get awfully messed up.

But these guys are not police. They are farang volunteers, with supposedly no power of arrest. Read the other rather long thread about these guys.

Sure sounds like they arrested him..
Also sounds like it was for the best but they whole power / rights / abailities / etc of these guys is a logistical can of worms..
Even if they over reach thier stated rights, can you ever see Thai police not backing them up anyway..

thai volunteer police
i think Nicke said his wifes father was a volunteer policeman back in the village.
they generally wear a black t-shirt with volunteer police in yellow on the back.
they some times carry radios, batons and are seen at most big events in the country.

pattaya mail
After Suksan had recovered he explained that he worked as a motorcycle taxi driver on Pattaya Third Road. He said that some of his friends had joined the volunteer police but that when he tried to do so he was not accepted. He said he wanted to die. His friends told him to go and jump off a telegraph pole. (With friends like that...)
from the pattaya mail, i like the bit about his friends

I was their last week and they only have about 10 volunteers working on walking streek at any one time. Most work the information table at the start of walking street. Their porgram is different than the one in Phuket because they have serious crime problems. A lot of durgs and gang activity, the active type, not the inactive type that we have in Patong. Payatta has the highest death rate for expats living and visiting, next to Bangkok.

They have about 20 expats but that number goes up and down as they leave the country and come back. Most of the Thai volunteer group do not speak english. The Tourist Police (Paid Thai Police Officers) speak very good english and are very well trained. I will be in a teaching program with them for a week in FEB and will gather as much infor as I can.

Had not heard much on the grapevine about philippino organized crime.. Do they have a specialized subject ??
Also how can the Ruskis so obviously run russion ******s out of the white meat gogo's ??? I mean I am fairly sure that work permits are not being given for the oldest profession.. Surely that simple step would be a start on clean up because it gives everyone the impression that you can purchase the tolerance and I am sure you would agree thats not a good thing ??

The tall white girls with out work permits are deported as quickley as they come in. So the girls are allways around. They used to be at the Las Vages Club but I am told they were kicked out. The Philipo group is a card scam. They make firends with you, invite you to their house for dinner after dinner a little friendly card game, you win a few times. And then the fix is on the big money you lose big time. Then they move. They target mostley asian tourists but some farangs get taken in.
The all asian tourist police volunteers are outside of Phuket and Payatta.

I think thats a general impression Steve.. I mean how else can a gogo be blatantly full of illegal immigrants breaking the law in full view of the whole community..

55555555555555 Sir Gez, what are you like???
I think the Thais (and yes, I know they are well versed in greasing the right palms, back-handers, little brown envelopes and giving a good kicking or breaking the right bones to those who don't fall into line etc) but the Russians are a whole new and different ball game and don't be surprised if they are not discretely sussing out Patong right now.
After the Lebanese in West Africa (Who pretty much have most of that area sewn up!) and I think Simon can back me up on this, I've seen them operate in Nigeria, Senegal and even in the Canaries (A strong presence on Tenerife!) The Russians, especially from the Black Sea areas are getting stronger and stronger in places like South Korea, Thailand and will definately spread like a cancer.
I have worked in Russia, Latvia, Kosovo, Croatia (Where I have a house) and Slovenia and there are some very, very rich individuals living in lovely big houses, yachts moored in harbours and gambling in their own casinos there, whose entire income is derived from all over the Far East. After what they get up to in thier own back yards, which is fcuking scary!! They honestly deem some of these countries to be naive and will go in and take.
Different story in Japan and China, they have tried and got thier fingers burnt but that doesn't mean they still won't try! The benefits far out weigh the losses they are prepared to take. We have all heard the term "Don't **** with the Triads" From what I have seen and heard about the Russians, Albanians and Kosovars, I definately wouldn't be messing with them!
Not trying to scare-monger here, it's only what I have seen with my own eyes. These people are already embedded in London, Paris, Madrid, Lisbon and doing very well out of prostitution, gaming, weapons and drugs etc They come home to Zagreb, Moscow, St Petersburg, Sarajevo etc
If those so called capable Police Forces are having problems with them, I dread to think how the MIB will cope. Then again, I think we all have our opinions on that!

Same same in Europe.. Holland is obviously the drugs hub of N Europe.. Last few years all the major players were getting edged out to the Eastern Euros and Blatic / Black sea Ruskis..
Really do just come in and start killing off the competition..
I actually think the MiB have an advanatcge in that they dont always have to follow 'due process' to the letter..
