Actually, he married her. His name was Joe Dimaggio. popularly referred to as the "Yankee Clipper." A class guy. They say he went to her gravesite to put flowers there on her birthday every year.
Also immortalized in the Paul Simon song from the movie, "The Graduate," where Dustin Hoffman played a young man who was seduced by his GF's sexy mom, played by Anne Bancroft. The song was called "Mrs. Robinson."
Where have you gone, Joe DiMaggio?
A nation turns its lonely eyes to you
(Woo woo woo)

‘Joltin Joe’ has left and gone away?
(Hey hey hey – hey hey hey)
In his latter years, he was often seen on TV pushing the "Mr. Coffee" coffee maker machine.
He is still remembered for his record of most consecutive games with a base hit(56), which has never been broken, nor has anyone come close to breaking it. That was during WWII, and in a lot of the old war movies, the GIs are listening to the ball games on the radio to see if he gets a hit to continue his streak!
