A new ad campaign has been launched to promote tourism in Phuket. TIT (Thailand Initiative for Tourism) decided they needed to encourage a more diverse spectrum of visitors to the island and it was agreed that a campaign was needed to attract more African-Americans. Committee member Chai Kairat explained the “Phuket is Black” campaign, “Our children all listen to Hip-Hop music and gangsta rap and we thought that it was natural for us to target these people as potential tourists. There are many similarities between the African-Americans and us. We both like to wear gold, drive oversized cars and listen to music so loud it distorts. We also like fried chicken. Not only will we have an island wide poster campaign but also we will have special parades to greet our friends from America. Children will dress like Rappers and adults will blacken their faces to make our guests feel at ease.” The campaign will begin in the next few months and is expected to be as successful as the “Double pricing for Farangs” campaign.

Great idea, i have already oversized clothes because of some additional kilos and to colour my face black would be usefull as i didn´t see the daylight many times after the long nights of bangla road during my trip to phuket

I actually spoke with some girls in Phuket about black men when we were sitting in their room, not sure how we got into the subject but i think we were discussing what kind of men they prefer, and they told me they never want to go with black men, ever. I didnt get any good reason why tho. Perhaps they are afraid of the black man di*k myth.

Before the American Navy came many times to Phuket. All the bargirls looked happy and Bangla was crowded black. Not much time for normal tourist, the bargirls were bussy!

This is a thing why Thais are so funny. Next time they make Phuket yellow because they eat noodles to and also sing like cats.

Sadly it is to do with skin colour.

I don't know if you have realised this but the majority of thai's would prefer to be 'as white as possible'

It's to do with the fact that thai's look down on other thai's who have darker skin (as lower class than they are)

The poorest of farmers, particularly from the north east of thailand (Issan) usually have the darkest skin, the Issan people are often looked down upon by southern thai's in Bangkok and surrounding provinces.

The thai's from the north of Chiang mai are often complemented on their skin by other thai's because many can be very white looking as they are often a thai/chinese mix and it is far cooler up there, less of the burning sun for longer hours etc..

I have witnessed with my own eyes while staying in Issan villages how the locals (especially kids) use a very hard brush while washing themselves outdoors and try in vien to 'scrub off the black'

This is usually the reason many girls are not so keen on men of colour, because they equate this with class.

Sad but true, although I have witnessed far less of this attitude in pattaya where plenty of girls proudly walk down the street with coloured guys or seem to have less of a problem with it all.

Even when they are green and come from Mars they are welcome to bring them money.

and don´t forget to place some burning Oil barrels in front of the hotel, so the guests out of bronx and haarlem feel at home too. get scared thinking about what they do for the guest from Irak and Afghanistan could be an explosive impression

I already have a dark face. Actually my whole body is dark. It's true that you learn something new everyday. While I was in Thailand in October-November I could not tell If I was rejected or not. When I was in Phuket, the cabbies took me to get my boom boom and the last 2 days in Bangkok after a wonderful massage the young lady offered to come to my room for the next massage the next night. Sad thing is I can't remeber the name of the motel. I have to look at my bank account because I charged the room on my debit card.

Being a newbie in Thailand I realized now that I paid way too much for the boom boom. The color of my skin was not a factor or at least I don't think it was. By the way, I have less than 70 days and I'll be back in LOS again. Somewhere around the middle of April during th water festival. Hopefully I'll get to meet a few BMs.

See it as learningmoney. We all did I believe. I never believed in colors (dark skin to) Even proud I can stay longer in the sunshine.

I don´t think their is any differences if you are black, white or whatever and this was not the topic. only the affords that Thai Tourist office is doing allmost everthing to be everbodies darling. which seems to become funny in some way.
lets hope they don´t change the place too much, so will still love LOS for what it is.
