krabi-youths in gunpoint drama

Two youths travelling in Thailand were held at gunpoint by a group of men as they accepted lifts on motorbikes.

Chris Goward, 22, from Northern Ireland, and Jack Brown, 20, from Bristol, had left a bar in the coastal resort town of Krabi.

The pair agreed to go on to a party with the men and rode pillion on bikes.

When they changed their minds, a gun and a knife were pulled on the pair, their family said. They jumped off the bikes and ran into a restaurant.

Police investigate

Workers at the restaurant immediately called the police.

The Foreign Office have confirmed that Thai police are investigating the incident.

Jack Brown's father David Brown, of Somerset, said: "He's only been there a couple of weeks.

"Jack phoned me and told me he as quite upset he had been accosted by some blokes that they had met. "Jack managed to jump off this bike though he damaged part of his leg."

guns and common sense

accepting lifts from strangers, as Steve M said they left their brains at the airport.

a friend of mine a policeman was interviewing a suspect at the station in a town on the central plain.

when i inquired what the youth had done, it was explained to me he is the grandson of the local area gunsmith.

saw a couple of weapons they had consfiscated, 1 was a real metal pipe 1 shot saturday night special.

the other was a very basic sawn off, made from cannabilised parts from 3 weapons. nicely made though.

my gfs brother in law took me to his wifes school to pick her up after work, put his police issue weapon on the floor of the car.

he noticed me looking at the weapon, and he said bad man thailand have many gun.

Yes, handheld guns is pretty common here, especially among the bad guys. I have also heard about two cases where people I know were threated by a gun by TGs.

I think it was just recently they prohibited wearing gun in public in Phuket.

When I was in Pattaya, I watched the Pattaya City news on the TV, and nearly every night, someone had been arrested for carrying a gun in public.
