Jungceylon work to restart

Jungceylon work to restart ‘by April’

PHUKET: The transfer of Manit Udomkunnatum’s 53% share in Phuket Square Co Ltd – the company that owns Jungceylon – to Rattanakamchai Co will take place on March 28, after which construction of the Patong mall will restart, the Gazette has learned.

After the transfer, Rattanakamchai will pass the shares to Real Estate Capital Asia Partners (Recap), a US-registered investment fund that recently rescued the project from a seemingly insoluble dispute between K. Manit and Tanit Rattanakamchai, Managing Director of Rattanakamchai Co.

The amount Recap paid for its 53% share of the project remains a closely guarded secret.

The transfers of shares will take place at the Phuket Provincial Commercial Office, a Jungceylon source told the Gazette, confirming that contractor Power Line will most likely go back on site by April, with t he mall opening by November.

“Construction has not restarted yet,” the source said, “but it is certain that once the transfer of shares has been effected, [Jungceylon] will open on time.”

In that case, I'd give the Tana Patong a miss until the work is finished.

I think the whole place is days to perhaps a week from opening.. When I said there were rushing up shelves and interior fitment I meant in general not Carreforre..

I am told Irish bar should open next weekend.

Had a little walk round it today and will go back with camera for you guys to see, its really very impressive, sure there will be teething problems but a lot of thought and effort has gone into the design.

My thoughts are that this more than any recent opening will change the face of Patong, times are changing!!!!!

TT it looked like about half were stocking up or having shopfitters in, saw pizza place (as if we need another) coffe house, clothes, I thought there was supposed to be a theatre but it will be upstairs so couldn't confim until open. Alot of water with canals, dykes and bridges etc also a full sized galleon, still a few bars/restaurants etc available, if my Thai reading is correct.

Yeah yeah, take some pictures. I will be in Phuket next Monday, hopefully i can go there and just pass time, if it's ready by then?

I notice some nice fashion labels on the big board last time, like MNG and some others. Would be a really nice place for girls to shop, instead of going all the way to Central Festival.

JungCeylon to Open (at last - hopefully?) Dec 20th !

Must have missed you Dodger - I was out this afternoon - scouting for an improved parking spot .... the underground car park look tempting ..at last a real car park in Patong!!!!!

OK what about the rest - Mrs not impressed with my recce ... kept saying not allowed look there ... but farang like look everything ....

Place is definite shift to higher gear for Patong - had the feel of Singapores Suntec City - the giant mast and compass pretty impressive for photo ops ... the cinima not opening yet or the Burasari Hotel. CarreFour opens Dec 20th according to the huge new banner in Thai .. the security guard was aying about next week, but I was doubtful he knew for sure. Some shops are being fitted out and the feature fountain (musical) is yet to be completed.

Boots, a good bookshop and Starbucks are the only shops open. As Dodger was saying there is a Food Court including pizza, NY Deli, coffe shop etc at the front. I'd say they will not make it for this high season, but next high season will for sure be a big focal point for Patong.

Indochine and yet another disco are also planned.

Spoke to one of the Carrefore employees- he said open date of 20 Dec as well. They are actually paving the part of the Yellow Brick Road behind Jungceylon as well, after putting a few tons of decent hardcore down last week. Sould be good when finished but only Boots, Bookazine and Starbucks open so far. A long way to go before its fully online.
