PGTV launches on the Internet

PGTV launches on the Internet

PHUKET: Programming from PGTV, the Phuket Gazette’s own TV production unit, can now be watched online at www.phuketgazette.net/tv, or by clicking on the “TV-Phuket” link above.

Ten minutes of news and 10 minutes of documentaries or interviews are now uploaded to the site every day, Monday to Friday, at 10 am, from PGTV’s own studio.

The program consists of Phuket news, followed by the weather forecast and currency exchange rates, and then This Is Phuket, the documentary or interview segment concentrating, again, on the local community.

In addition to the online service, programming can also be seen on some local cable channels and in guest rooms in an increasing number of hotels.

PGTV is forging new alliances all the time. As an example, today’s online documentary, Return to Paradise, is the first of a four-part special on the tsunami aftermath by Australian filmmaker Michelle McRae.

PGTV was launched on January 2 this year as part of the Phuket Gazette’s drive to expand into a variety of media, which already includes the newspaper itself, the Gazette Online and the Gazette Guide phone book.

To watch the online show, viewers will need a minimum of an ADSL connection and Internet Explorer.

PGTV welcomes feedback. Send email to marc@phuketgazette.net

While I agree that it is still a bit amateurish , you have to remember that this is a new venture and probably does not have a big budget. I still find it a good way to get a bit of news about Phuket , and the coverage of the Crocodile Disco fire was pretty good. I don't know how many announcers they have , one earlier was Western but I hope they use more Thais, as , after all it is their country.

I do think your comments are unfair , while not perfect , the presenters English was very good and I understood everything she said. Remember , she is using a language that is not her native tongue , I'll take bets that her English is better than your Thai. You mention the fact that you think she is ugly , she was probably employed for her intelligence , rather than her looks.

I wish them all the best with this project , and think that rather than being criticized , they should be applauded for their efforts.

OK mates, sorry. Maybe its unfair that her english skills are less. Yes you could understand her but i am sure you would find someone with much better skills in english and moderating. So please dont tell me the thai thing again, poor thai and your thai is worse than her english. Yes my thai is 1000% more worse than her english but i would not start working as a news moderator in a TV chanel for Thai speaking people, Thats the little difference. And i have a lot of thai friends with a perfect english, so please dont come always sorry they are thais. Thats all. The comment about her looking was a little bit unfair, as i thought well if she cant speak english she would have look better.A joke!!And in second you are right the presentators of the reports spoke good english and i understood everthing.
I played it twice but after the weather report there came nothing else. No reports. Have seen the report about the chairs for patong, the election, and the football. then weather report and finish. how did you see something else? What did i wrong?

Pretty cool, the girl presenting speaks good english, i understood everything she said, and she reads better than alot of the kids being churned out of our schools thesedays. The only slight downside is the occasionally fractured sentences, but she's in front a camera, reading off a teleprompter, not easy at the best of times i should think and she'll get better with practice.

Not a stunner by Thai standards, but I can show you round some pubs locally where she would be.

I think top marks to the gazette for presenting something new to its audiences. Some people just have to complain about everything.

There is a new program every day (Mon - Fri) at 10.00AM , use the "search" area under the screen to see previous broadcasts.

I agree, good intiative.

When I had cable we had a local Phuket News program, it was in Thai but showed the real news PG never write about. (E.g. shooting, murders.) Not nice news but good to know whats is really going on. I wish that was available on internet too.

Andaman News is back at 8.30am weekdays on TV & radio

In contrast to PGTV, Andaman News is live, on free terrestial TV11, radio FM90.5 in this region, & downloadable mini-videos, starting again today at our usual time slot of 8.30am on Monday 1 May, with a special report on redevelopment of Patong & Kamala beaches, plus an interview with the owner of a new restaurant in an old building of Phuket town, with 2 artists currently exhibiting there.
Also this week we will have interviews with the Norwegian and Swedish ambassadors who opened a joint consulate in Phuket; the Director in charge of approving a new Tsunami movie; donors of over 80,000 books to tsunami affected schools; and the British Ambassador during a visit to Phuket. Plus more reports on a students art exhibition; a Masters Golf Tournament in Phuket; a dolphin center meeting; an unusual car rally; and a football tournament & training.

Andaman News is usually on air at 8.30-9am, Mondays to Fridays, in English, with the latest local Phuket, Phang Nga and Krabi news, reports, interviews and weather forecasts on local TV Channel 11 (VHF dial) and if at 8.30am also on Radio Thailand FM90.5, both in Phuket, Phang Nga & Krabi provinces.
The news text is usually posted on www.thaisnews.com
at 8.00am on each day of broadcast. To view archives or previous dates news text , change the date (weekdays since 26-09-2004) by changing the address line of your browser: eg for 7 June 2005 put: http://www.thaisnews.com/show_eachne...ate=07-06-2005

and you can also see/download mini-videos of most of the reports and interviews, posted later after the program - a list of recent videos is available at 'VDO clips' or: http://www.thaisnews.com/vdoclips_list.php

and a list of mini-videos archives since June 2005 is at 'VDO Clips Archives' or http://www.thaisnews.com/vdoclips.php

Hi TV Channel 11,

8.30am is far too early in the morning for most farangs and my internet connection is too slow to watch online. You might consider broadcasting your show in the evening instead or on the weekend.
