His Royal Highness Crown Prince Jigme Khesar Namgyel Wangchuck of Bhutan arrived at Phuket International Airport on Friday morning. The Crown Prince was greeted by Phuket Governor Udomsak Uswarangkura and high ranking officials. He came to Phuket for a private visit and stayed at Amanpuri hotel, an exclusive high end resort which has accommodated many head of states and world celebrities. He went to Maiton Island for water sports there during his stay in Phuket.
The Crown Prince departed Phuket yesterday afternoon. Arriving at the airport for departure, officials and students from the local special school were waiting to bid farewell, so the Crown Prince friendly greeted them and had photographs taken with them before boarding Thai Airways for Bangkok. He left Bangkok for Bhutan early this morning. His Royal Highness Crown Prince Jigme Khesar Namgyal Wangchuck of Bhutan came to Bangkok to join the celebration of HM the King's 60th Anniversary of his Accession to the Throne on behalf of his father, King Jigme Singye Wangchuck.
Aged 26, the Crown Prince of Bhutan is unmarried. Crown Prince Jigme, who is now the president of the Royal University of Bhutan, has active roles in numerous cultural, educational, and economic organizations. He has paid several private visits to Thailand and once visited the Royal Project in Chiang Mai. The King of Bhutan has announced his intention to abdicate in 2008, and then the Crown Prince will succeed to the throne.
