Thumbs down English hooligans strike again

All over todays BBC - 100+ English drunken fans detained by police in Stuttgart after bottles and chairs thrown at police.

English fans seen to be complaining about German Police.Who was throwing the bottles???

I feel sorry for the English team who yet again see their achievements on the field eclipsed by bad fan behaviour.

SEND THE OFFENDERS HOME.

Its Amazing How Its Always The Football Supporters.......
I Went To The Lions Tour In 2001 [australia] And Found The Rugby Guys Were Great Crack...........
It Never Suprises Me To Read And Hear That The Football Thugs Are At It Again........ Its A Minority .......but They Always Cause Trouble...most Of These Guys Just Go To The Football To Create Trouble.........

The chances are the english fans were retaliating against something that wasnt mentioned...... I have moved to Frankfurt from england and i have met lots of English fans out here.... Some with families some of them a group of lads and all of them have been good lads.... I saw some of them even talking to a bunch of Trinidad and Tobago fans on Monday at the frankfurt main train station and it has all been friendly..... I would be suprised if they actualy started it..... The media dont report football hooligans very well.... Always say that the Hooligans start trouble when infact youll find that out of those 100 people hardly any would be hooligans... Just normal people who had to defend themselves... I think there is more there than the report is saying

It's not as bad as it sounds. Senior UK policeman working with German police interviewed on tv news has said that of the 123 people arrested, 120 will NOT be charged. 2 hooligans thew chairs, 1 woman got done for cocaine possession and the other 120 were just p1ssed and refused to go back to their hotels 'cos they wanted more beer (1:00 a.m.)

Policeman referred to them as drunks rather than hooligans.

Well English fans do have a very bad name for it and for good reason aswell, I remember the trouble they started in the last game against Ireland at Lawsdowne rd, And just because Ireland were beating them, They started a riot in the stadium, But I have to say in this case it was only a few that got involved in minor scuffles so far which is bound to happen with every country, And the 120+ that were arrested last night were arrested as a preventive messure, They didnt actually do anything except be in the wrong place at the wrong time, And then when they were asked to move they didnt want to go, They wanted more booze, So they were all arrested and were released later without charge, All but 3 of them..

And then tonight, It looked from what I seen of it on Sky News it was the German fans who started the trouble and a lot of the English didnt look like they wanted to get involved in it, Again bar a handful who got involved in a bit of a scuffle, And a few plastic chairs throwing about... Nothing special..

What you didnt hear on the news, Was there was an organised riot between Polish and German after there match which was much much worse than anything that went on with the English fans, But that didnt get any coverage at all, So make your own mind up why

Another bit of hysterical reporting by the BBC I expect it will be in all the tabloids tomorrow as well. The English are by no means perfect, there are football hooligans in every country, but its always the English that get the bad press

From what I've seen, the Poles and Germans have been far more badly behaved in this World Cup, but as usual, single out the English,it makes a better story

The ones that are there to make trouble should have their passports confiscated on return, and never be allowed to travel to another football match again. Hard to police, but not impossible. Who wants to take youngsters to a game if those idiots are kicking off.

And how come there isn't crowd trouble at Rugby matches, I guess the crowd or players themselves would sort out the troublemakers

Up until yesterday there had been more arrests at Royal Ascot than there had been at the World Cup (of English 'fans')

I've been listening to this a lot today and the BBC are being pretty even about it. The Germans are very upbeat and positive, they see the whole thing as a success so far.

They arrested 122 people and are keeping them in the cells until after the game, it sounds like that will be it. It's a shame, but it's no big deal.

When I was in Holland we had 250 'auf wiedersien pet' site workers in Holland alone and more in germany.. Inevitably a small selection of these boys were ex (or current) football ruckers.

Often they would get stopped at the ports and entry points when a match was coming as they were computer flagged as trouble even though they were to be on one of our jobs for Monday monring.

Holland has its own elements (rotterdam was pretty rough) and I remember after UK booted Holland out of the Euro cup having an english number plated car on the street was a bad idea (wrote off my old mans car.. Every window, mirror, wiper and light and keyed every body panel)..

What really surprised me was the organisation.. I was totally unaware of this but when a few coaches of firm boys went over, they liased with the top boys in the opposing clubs who came and met the incoming firms at the ferry, the leadership level was handshakes and swapped tel numbers and the whole ruck was much more engineered and planned than I had any guess off..

There was also trouble in Stuggart, but the Germans were the main offenders throwing chairs and bottles and the english.

So you just cannot blame the English

SORRY GUYS BUT ITS TIME TO GET REAL !

I HAVE had to listen to various tv and radio progs for 2 weeks now and have to endure people calling the english the best fans in the world GOD I HAD TO BITE MY TONGUE AND REFRAIN FROM CALLING IN !

the best fans in the world and its in the records who wins the awards all the time ARE the Scots and the Irish who know how to go overseas and get sloshed and have a good time without getting peoples backs up and causing trouble.

Thai learner i watched channel 4 news last night and observed hordes of drunken louts singing songs about world war 2 and how their fathers bombed germany ARE you really surprised if some germans took massive offence to this i personally would be looking to kick someones ass myself especially as the germans have treated the english fans very well

to go into german citys and sing such total crap songs is offensive and annoying in the extreme and i who have many german friends in Hamburg can only hope that they realise that scots and irish people would never get involved in garbage like that

i have loads of english friends (hopefully meet more next week) so i am not anti english but it does no favours to anyone to constantly blame the police for everthing because this has happened regularly with the england fans for the last 20 years (apart from japan when it was more expensive and awkward to get thetre)

i know as well as anyone that the problems are being caused by maybe 2% of the fans and that the rest are just having a good time but that 2% can be very dangerous when you are in an area where people have been drinking for maybe 10 hours it only takes a small skirmish to start a riot

the sad facts are that there are people who go to these tournaments to specifically cause problems (i know lots of them from my west ham days) it was well documented that 3147 people were supposed to hand there passports into the poilice to prevent them travelling to germany but 3 days before the 1st game 390 had failed to do so !

OK - so if Friday was a misunderstanding????

What about the 150 arrested last night and England were Not even playing.
Are we going to hear more feeble excuses again.

Public disorder including drunkenness is against the law.

Its strange considering recently gow English fans behaved... With a few exceptions... Look at 2002 in Korean and Japan and even the 2004 european championships.... There was a little skirmish but the papers exagerated that beyond belief... I know someone who saw it and said it was just a handful of blokes in the algarve not the amount that the papers were saying....

It could well have happened and if so that is out of order.... The Germans have been the perfect hosts here.... Even shop keepers here in Frankfurt have made the effort to speak English to them as to help them out.... I havent seen any trouble in Frankfurt tho.... I hope there is more to it than the media is just saying....

Just watched the tv report on last nights trouble.
I can't defend the English for that. . They should be thrown out the country immediately. Such a shame as its a very small percentage giving the rest a bad name.

2 quid goons looking for trouble, unfortunately just a bunch of trash. i agree about the english rugby, cricket, scots, irish fans never trouble, just happy characters having a beer and good times.
unfortunately in a 3rd world footballing country such as australia, pommie hooligans make more news than the football or the good supporters, in oz, we have a great season of football but 2 gangs of ethnics with feuds over 500 years past make the front page not the good things about the game.

To be totally honest I am past the point of caring anymore. A well deserved rep of being some of the worst scum in europe earned mainly in the late 70's and 80's but in general a bigger bunch of asswipes you could'nt find.

I love my country but these monkeys make me ashamed to say that I am an English man. I wish we had a United Kingdom team..... at least that way we might get somewhere in these things. It might nice to have all the nations cheering for one team.

As Jonny said earlier you just dont get this kind of thing at a rugger match.
So I will cheer for England and hope that our fans do not get pulled into something by a tiny minority of morons.

In Japan and South Korea the English fans were great, I really think that a lot of people thought that a corner had been turned. Hope dies with every bad performance from our fans.

I wonder if the cost of everything in Japan and Korea put potential trouble makers off. hmmmmm
