Tsunami 2nd anniversary ceremonies
A ‘Light Up Phuket’ ceremony will be held on December 26th in remembrance of the 2004 tsunami while Phang-Nga plans a religious ceremony and simple remembrance.
In remembrance of the December 26th tsunami which struck the coastal lines of the Indian Ocean including the Andaman coastal provinces, a few activities are now planned for its 2nd year anniversary. In Phuket, the Provincial Administration Organization or PPAO joins hands with the Tourism Authority of Thailand to hold the candle lighting ceremony called ‘Light Up Patong’ in tribute to the victims. On Kamala beach, the Japanese Association is scheduled to hold a remembrance ceremony on the beach where the memorial is stationed.
Meanwhile in Phang-Nga, all 5 religious ceremonies are reported to be arranged by the provincial authority. In the evening candle lighting and lanterns will be released in respect of the victims while the remembrance ceremony will also be arranged at the Bang Maruan cemetery where the unidentified victims are kept.
from Andaman News TV11 (VHF dial) + Radio Thailand FM90.5 Phuket City, both broadcast to Phang Nga, Krabi & Phuket provinces, 8.30am & later on Phuket Cable channel 1, Wednesday 13th December 2006 & Thaisnews.com { Our news text and mini-videos can be freely copied and posted on other websites, but please give credit to Andaman News TV11 Phuket}

The movie Tsunami, The Aftermath is being shown on Channel MM2 (no.39 on my telly) at 10.30 on tuesday, not sure if that's am or pm? and not sure it's Thai time!
Sems a bit insensitive to be screening it on the 2nd anniversary.
Tim Roth, Toni Collette, Chiwetel Ejiofor, Sophie Okonedo, Hugh Bonneville, Gina McKee, Kate Ashfield, Samrit Machielsen and Will Yun Lee lead the cast in Tsunami, The Aftermath - a compelling two-part landmark drama for BBC Two of loss, survival and hope.
Based on extensive research and interviews, this fictional drama focuses on the aftermath of the tsunami in Thailand, as seen through the eyes of a group of characters whose lives are irrevocably transformed by the disaster:
a British couple searching for their daughter;
a Thai survivor who loses his family and tries to prevent developers from seizing the land his village is built on;
an ambitious reporter;
an overwhelmed British official whose faith in the system is torn apart;
a mother fighting to get her injured son back to the UK;
and a leading Thai seismologist, whose earlier report detailing the inevitability of a tsunami hitting the affected area was ignored.
It examines the lessons for humanity raised by an event of this magnitude, and forces us to ask how the response next time could be different.
Filmed on location in Thailand, Tsunami, The Aftermath was developed by the internationally-acclaimed Kudos and written by award-winning Abi Morgan (Bafta winner for Sex Traffic and Murder).
The director of photography is John de Borman (Hideous Kinky, The Fully Monty, Serendipity), production designer is Richard Bridgland (Wicker Park, Gangster No.1), composer is Alex Heffes (Last September) and film editor is Barney Pilling (Spooks, Life on Mars).
The executive producers are Jane Featherstone (Life on Mars, Hustle, Spooks, Amazing Mrs Pritchard) and Derek Wax (Sex Traffic, Flesh And Blood) for Kudos.
The producer is Finola Dwyer (Stoned, Hamburg Cell, Me Without You, Backbeat) and director is Bharat Nalluri (Life on Mars, Hustle, Spooks).

There was a thread about the program when it was on , and I personally was not impressed with it.
I also think that showing it in Thailand on the anniversary is tasteless and insensitive to those who lost friends and loved ones.

The Absolute SeaPearl. Don't worry it doesn't look like that now!
You've got some construction going on alongside it though. They've taken over the plot of the wrecked hotel next door (can't remember what it was called) and at last building work is under way. 2 years after the tsunami this is the last bit of beachfront to be rebuilt.
Pic taken yesterday....Seapearl in the background.

Yeah in fact I feel more strongly aout how they want to dramatize it by the date (and some seriously questionable adverts.. earthquake alert type images and... its coming.. Dec 26th !!) than the subject..
Tilak wants to watch it (its about Thailand isnt it !!) but I am not wanting to see..
