Very tragic, it scares me also. I stayed in this hotel and I know the owner also. As IJ allready said the last period there are many incidents in Patong. I hope it will be safe for the incoming tourists.

As has been posted before, I would not be too worried if you’re a “regular” tourist. All of these killings seem to be targeted. IMO there is far less random violence here than back home, even though the level of “violent crimes” here far exceeds that of my country.

What I am most worried about actually is accidentally getting caught in a drunken brawl whilst in a crowded disco (as almost happened in Safari a few weeks back).

Still worrying about the latest killings though. Not least when if happens a few hundred yards from your own doorstep...

Shhhhh, you're gonna make people feel safe.

Maybe time for another poll. seems the expat "it's safe" vote is out numbering the "death is at your doorstep" vote.

Sorry. Did not get that one.

(PS! Referring to the shooting at the Club in Kamala, literally "a few hundred yards from your [my] own doorstep...")

I'm probably missing something tho. AGAIN

Safe

I have been going for 10 years 4 times a year at least and providing you do not go looking for trouble it is usually safer than home.

Don't rent a bike as you are more prone to die on the roads than anyone putting a round in you.

The Americans (not that I am a big fan) call it 'Situational Awareness''; keep your wits about you and don't go being rude or antogonistic and you should be OK.

But if you honestly want to believe that it is not safe because you accept the fear that you read in the media and post; then go ahead.

Its the same as terrorism; that's what they want you to do. Change your plans, stay in doors, worry, don't go here, dont go there, do this but don't do that.

As they say in LOS; Up To U.

Me; I do what I want when I want where I want, I get drunk but I am a quite happy drunk, I don't need to argue or start a fight or insult people; I accept anyone as a friend I have not met yet, rather than a stranger, so my life is long and un-complicated.

I hope.

Regards

Keep coming here its a great place and Nickes bar is a great watering hole.

Regards

Drew

The Shhhhhhhushing is a bit of a in-joke between ATM and LIL who (just this once ) don't agree on something.

Where's the poll and can non-expats vote?

I can se that this easily would scare off new first timers to phuket..when i first ordered my stay , i had never really heard anything negative about thailand as a tourist place at all exept for the tsunami. But since our trip was ordered there has been various articles in the news about thailand in our media in Norway. off course bad things happends everywhere, but if this is starting to happend more and more with media coverage around other countries as well this might get people to look elsevere for new vacation spots.

On the other hand..what happends to yourself is mostly your own fault. Treat other peaple as you wish to be treated yourself. sure, we could all be at the wrong place at the wrong time, but thats the way life is....

I agree

Did you know that more people die each year from being killed by falling coconuts than die from shark bites. Its true.

It doesn't sell papers or make movies (Jaws was a good film, I can't See ''Killer Coconuts'' ever being made).

I am a great beleiver in 'When it's your time, then it's your time''; if you think too much about it you would never even get on the plane to Fly to Thailand.

Just enjoy yourself and be polite and you will be fine, but remember 'Trouble Finds Trouble' so don't go looking for it.

Regards

Drew

That's a solid piece of advice. I personally go looking for happiness (or in Thaiglish "Happy Happy") and that's what I tend to experience.

Never heard of him. Just googled some info and still don't get the joke.

I just mean you tend to find what you are looking for. Want trouble, you'll get it. Want fun, you'll get it....
