Mr Pansak Poolnoo, Charoen Pedthong and Chom or Johnny Boonwate were detained for questioning after Kathu Police arrested them at SuperCheap Store car park on Friday. They were of Nepalese origin with Thai citizenship. The gang was caught in action, receiving money from Mr Jeewan Raithai, a major tailor shop operator in Patong. They earlier tried to force Mr Raithai to give them 100,000 baht in exchange for his life as they allegedly claimed to have been hired for 200,000 baht to murder the man. The gang however denied all charges. Police said the gang had been committing such crimes against Nepalese victims several times in different tourist locations but most victims dare not report to police.
