Can see it happening. Top days of the year for tourism. Prices up for X-mas and New year, fully booked everywhere... and all bars closed for election day.

But it sounds good to maintain thier 'this year' promise and plenty of reasons why it can **** up and get delayed thats not thier fault..

Even a slim chance to blame it on the farangs for all visiting at this time and disrupting them..

Just imagine the closure aspects at high season !!

LIL, i thought there was all that talk before about "tourist zones" being exempted for various times and days?.
but i suppose an election is not counted for that.

suits the junta perhaps as many issanites, strongly taksin supporters that they are will not be willing to leave their far flung work places to return home to vote.

but i think with the junta, its a fair chance the day chosen could change for some reason.

with the depth of the "no" vote on the recent charter, the issan will be an ongoing problem for the junta

Cool Bar closing insanity

Bar closing aside. This may cause people to cancel Thailand for that period and go elsewhere.

That was my first thought.

For sure there will be a lot of military security around near the election. Once those images hit the news, it will also hurt the backend of high season.

Thailand has set a date for the first general election following last year's coup that ousted Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra from power.
The electoral commission said the election would be held on 23 December.

Yeah it's true, read it on BBC before it was updated on Bangkok Post.

Hope everything is still normal before that date.
