Should be rewarded for providing services during flights?

MELBOURNE: An Australian doctor left her family to attend to three sick passengers on a Malaysia Airlines (MAS) flight to Kuala Lumpur.

As a reward, she wanted an upgrade but MAS said no. And Dr Matilda Metledge has shot off a bill to MAS for services rendered.

Aussie docs call for rewards after MAS incident

This is beginning to sound more typical of todays Medical Practitioners every day.

Doctor's (usually) take a Hippocratic Oath which is their morale obligation to help all others (regardless).

The fact that this woman thought here Practice Money Meter was running is a joke and she has a nerve to even ask.

Fair call from MAS I say...

Interesting point from the AMA about asking Doctors Yes or No on the ticket...looks like the AMA has forgotten also what a Doctors morale obligation are today also.

FCUK ME...what is Australia coming to eh (I say Aust because this is VERY Un-Australian) I don't care if it is considered "the norm" anywhere else.

My mates ask me why I don't like coming back to Australia much any more?

Exhibit A Your Honour...

I've read and thought about this one for a while now and too be honest i can see both sides so i'm gonna to sit on the fence...

An air stewardess is after all a waitress in the sky and although they are trained to deal with sick people they are not experts in that field. I do, however think its an obligation for a doctor/medic to assist in such circumstances.

Should there not be a doctor on a flight when someone died and the staff on board weren't capable of saving that person through lack of medical experience the airline in question would most certainly be questioned and maybe lawsuits incurred.

Should a doctor be on board and use their skill and expertise to save someones life i think an airline should gladly offer an upgrade as it will have saved them a lot legal questioning and potential compensation.

I can see a very mixed opinion on this subject....

I agree with MWM.
Aside from lawsuits it, to me, is just common sense to reward a customer who in a significant way help your business run more smoothly.
On the flip side, I do not think anyone is entitled to compensation.

A few months ago I was on a flight that made an emergency landing because of a sick passenger. There was a doctor in the back attending to the patient. After the sick passenger was off loaded, the doctor was seated up front for the rest of the flight. I am sure an arrangement that all could be happy with (except I was enjoying the empty seat next to me).

Presumably she asked for an upgrade for her whole family which I think would be too much.

Last time I was on a flight where a doctor was called, she and the nurse who responded where given a couple of full size bottles of champagne to take home and seemed happy enough with this.

Singapore

I was on a flight this year to Singapore from the UK when this guy died and they put the call out for a Dr and then for anyone with medical expereince.

I then helped carry the body to a store room with 2 other passengers, as he was a big guy and the Sterdesses could not lift him.

I asked for an upgarde on my next flight via email if there was room for me.

I just got the standard response that it is unfair to full fare paying passengers to give out free flights.

I think the days of upgrades are over unless you have airmiles etc or the plane is full.

Regards

Drew
