Akkaradej called his wife and father and told them where he was, which the pair then relayed to police. Last night at Tah Chat Chai Police Station, Akkaradej’s father persuaded him during a phone conversation to give himself up, said police.
You two are a tough crowd....I doubt the father and ex(?)-wife would have known about his involvement in the crime until the police investigation lead police to their door....something like...."Hallo Hallo Hallo Mrs Akkaradej and Father Akkaradej we think your son/(ex)hubby might have been up to no good - do you know where he is? No? Well, let us know if you hear from him cause if we find him first it might end badly for him....."
In a similar case you'd both tell your boy to shoot it out? Take a few of the filth with him? etc...
Grassed him up? I'd say they saved his worthless life.
Regardless...it is a good result....

Well it seems the wife came forward while the husband was still missing and told the police about his habit of watching farang females on the beach.. How else would you read that timeline ??
They knew who it was and his absence was obvious.. they then tell police.. That is 'grassing' in my book despite its good or bad intentions.
Dont try to paint this is stunning detective work. More the intellect of the criminal.

wow you just got my blood boiling again, i'm just as disgusted with what goes on here.
Letting people out on bail after they have commited murder is beyond comprehension.
The who you know thing also applies in many country's just like Thailand, however I have never heard of it in the extreme like here.
I wonder what the Thai word for vigilante is.

Corruption is only a problem when it does not work in your favour....that's what this board tells us...
Or are all the expats who complain about the quality of the Royal Thai Police not the same ones who regularly gloat over how they got out of trouble with the local police for a few hundred baht?
and when they complain about the police taking bribes....it is not corruption they complain about....its that the price of the bribe has gone up!!!
When you look up the Thai word for vigilante...find me the one for "double standard" as well....

Sigh...and of course her call was the only phone call or tip off, or helpful information that they received....it was the only lead they had to follow...no chance of overlooking or discounting it in the resounding silence that would have followed such a high profile murder on a public beach....No false leads, no misinformation, no other issues such as man-power, rostering, political or media interference, information flow, coordination and control, time-lines...nothing, just sit there and wait for the that one and only phone call...just like Poirot indeed.

Where do you preceive that I am even remotely suggesting that this is God's Will that this happened???? I was eluding to an earlier statement from you that this man meets Satan someday.
To elaborate: Grace is getting what you don't deserve, Mercy is not getting what you deserve and Justice is getting exactly what you deserve.
God who is omnipotent does have a perfect plan no matter what man, fallen Angels or Satan himself does, the war has been won and we are simply walking thru the battlefield.

Why ?
If they want to carry on debating their differences on this subject then let them - it's a forum after all.
If you have now got bored with this thread, then read another one, there's plenty of them.

the man and the woman clearly fought.
Her blood would be on his hands (literally) and his on her body. Simple DNA test would confirm his identity as the killer.
This never gets mentioned in Thailand and I wonder if they have forensics at all?! It's always a 'confession'.

MiniVDO: The murderer of a Swedish tourist in Phuket was brought back for a reenactment of the murder.
To see or download mini-video, go to ThaisNews
The 31 year old Akradet Tanke, who confessed to murdering a 27 year old Swedish tourist Hann Charlotta Backlund, was arrested and brought back to the Mai Khao beach for a reenactment of the crime. The activity was carried out late afternoon amidst heavy security and over 300 local people came to observe. Akadetch showed signs of stress. Police led by Deputy Commander in Chief Pol. Maj. General Thavatch Bunfueng took him to the site where he peaked at the victim, then to the location where he stabbed her to death. The crime scene is around 700 metres from the bungalow & tents where the Swedish tourist and her friend stayed. Before the reenactment, the murderer was brought in for a press conference. According to police Akradetch pleaded guilty for all charges citing that stress led him to commit such a crime.
The Phuket Tourist Association president Maitree Narukhatpichai gave 100,000 baht reward to Pol.Lt. General Thani Thavitsri, commander in chief of region 8 police, to pass on to the informant who led them to the arrest. The murderer also begged pardon from the Swedish Consul to Phuket who was pleased with Thai police who had been quick in bringing the criminal to justice. Akradetch committed the murder on Saturday March 15th just before noon on Mai Khao beach, north of Phuket Airport. After committing the crime he fled to hide in Chumporn and then Ranong, before going across to the Burmese Koh Song Island. Being pressured by police, his family persuaded him to give himself up and this led to his arrest on Tuesday night in Ranong.

MiniVDO: Patong emphasizes on tourist safety with CCTV already in operation.
To see or download mini-video, go to ThaisNews
Re-assuring the visitors to Patong of the safety measures, Patong Mayor Pian Keesin said his office always places the issue as the priority. According to the Patong Mayor, several CCTV have been installed and operated in the Patong area and in case of any crime, police can check from the CCTV. This is being carried out alongside the natural disaster prevention or impact reduction to ensure the highest safety for residents and tourists. He stresses that this is apart from implementing 7 main policies during his administration which includes environmental care. The Patong Mayor and his elected administrative team are scheduled to end their term in June this year.

Never get the thai fascination with "Reenactments".
Always guy on TV news, staring at the floor in 'shame', made to stand holding a gun at some shopkeeper. Bizarre.

What a statement.... What measures have been done? What a f'n joke... Lip service to the public. These "elected leaders or appointed leaders" should just keep there mouths closed. They would be better off.

you must have been happy when they invented Viagra
THIS GIRL WAS ON A SECLUDED BEACH FOR GOD'S SAKE
not nude and flashing and would cover up when no one was there
What do they have to do with a murder victim?

SECLUDED is right. Thats part of the danger that she was not aware of for some reason.

They put cctv cameras in patong but when you drive from Kamala to Surin all the street lights are out so it's total blackness.......why?
They have brand new lights on the road.

Where do you live?
If you don't live here then I suggest you spend a couple years in differant areas of Thailand before you start commenting, you have no idea what goes on here.
There is so much that goes under the radar.
I was referring to a real situation that some of us are close to and then you spout off and have no idea what we are referring to.

why do people feel the need to announce its their 1st and last post??
if a country makes a concerted effort to lure tourists they then should put the necessary resources in the police force to protect those tourists
