Phuket will become vacation place for the rich

Turiststopp på favoriten Phuket - Resor - Expressen.se

The article is in swedish but a rough translation says:

Phuket is full. This high season there will be 4 million tourists on Phuket island and now the Thai goverment will start to use the brake. The tourist hordes can't increase anymore. Phuket will instead invest in luxury hotels for the rich.

The charter tourists will in the future be sent to cheaper places like Khao Lak, Krabi and Trang. And the backpackers that discovered Phuket's charm is long gone allready.

Cannot read the article but from your precis, not so sure they have got all the facts.

Read Tourists Authority website they are looking to actively market for more tourists looking to open up the Indian and Arab travel markets, local papers say they are looking to market to Russia and East European Contries for more tourism.

Cannot see the Thais putting a brake on the tourist numbers, well not until the infrastructure has overloaded by two times, then they might think about it!!

Yes, I found the article to be a bit odd also coz I have heard this also that they are trying to get more russians and arabs to vacation in phuket. But when you think about it, what kind of arabs and russians travel? The ones with money. But still find the article in the swedish paper a bit odd...

That paper is not known to have the facts, their articles are worthless.
