Thaksin touring 99 temples

Quote:
Thaksin will start his pilgrimage on Monday

Former PM Thaksin Shinawatra will start his pilgrimage to 99 temples Monday.

He will be touring Khon Kaen, Kalasin, Roi Et and Maha Sarakham as part of his meritmaking pilgrimage to 99 of the nation's temples.

The Nation
Bangkok's Independent Newspaper

A nation wide tour going to temples. I am sure he will be going to many parts of the country. Just happen to encounter many of the local people that choose to great him.

Good to know he is a devote Buddhist, otherwise it would be easy to confuse this for a politician on a national campaign tour.

I think it is more of a "show" so that the courts let him off easy, not a "show" to get the PM job again. That would be historical if he ever did.

Regardless, he sure is a master at managing his image in a Thai way...

Agree. Also the PPP are both facing dissolving by the courts and are also trying to do an end-run to charter change to undermine the courts. So good time to build up ground support and distract from bigger issues.

But that all just assumes he just isn't on a lucky (9) religious pilgrimage.

I didn't catch that the first time around. The "9" part. Thanks for clearing it up!

Blimey...he'll end up with 99 bits of lucky string on his wrist. Hope he's got a strong left arm.

Funny how there were signs up at the temples he was to visit advertising his arrival, days in advance.

Just the sort of low key religious pilgrimage you'd expect from him.
