and the winner is...
Google. Yahoo did brilliantly fend off Microsoft. Could look back in time and say this was the beginning of the end for MSFT. This is a mortal blow. Balmer will have to bow out within the next 6 months. But is Yahoo's shareholders better off in the long run...I don't think so. But I do believe Yahoo's fire has been reignited.

The deal was questionable and that is why they wouldn't go up. They offered a huge premium over the pre-offer market cap. But there was a good argument that Yahoo was not capitalizing on the traffic. MSFT has built a ad system and they want that extra yahoo revenue.
I agree buying Baidu would make sense if it is possible.

But yahoo out maneuvered redmond.
