If Myanmar had more open borders people could go an volunteer help.. But as the leaders care so little for the people that is closed.
Would be wonderful to see Myanmar open up, to progress.. I am told the coastline between Ranong and Rangoon is amazing.. Would love to ride the 'road to Mandalay' if they would let me. Hope some day soon they can get rid of that Junta !!

Red Cross does well with blankets, tents and some food/meds; but when it comes to rebuilding they are worthless.

I have always had ok dealings with Burmese here.. They get such a bad rap from Thais but maybe that exact fact makes them less ego and attitude. A buddy had a work crew of really good ones and I had a 'Mr Burma' handy man at one point.. Show the merest hint of respect and normal decency to em and they seemed shocked !! Some of the stories of a Thai foremen over a work crew (until the foreman got booted for it by the farang) were disgusting, wouldnt treat dogs that way.

talking thousands dead and 10K people with homes annhialated in NZ news this morning...
took the Mandalay express from Rangoon to Mandalay about 30 years ago....was my all time favourite train journey

I will be going to the Bar later to talk to the Burmese employees there, hardworking polite and very friendly, speaks good English also. The Owner employs only Burmese. I know some of them went back to Myanmar for their CNY which is similar to Thailand's Songkran.
LivinLOS, i am also tempted to go to Ngapali or other beaches, but i am sure my parents will not allow me to. The Burmese waiters offered to be my guide.

Oh, updates from the Burmese working at the Pub i always go to.
Most of them, their families are staying outside of Rangoon, so they assume they are ok, since they cant contact them. They are very sad, but they still work as normal and put on a brave smile. I am very sad for them.
