Phuket Tuk-Tuk Boss: Aren't You Afraid of Me?

I had hassle with a meter taxi from Phuket airport a couple of days ago. First didn't want to use the meter, then the travel agency stop; where you stay hotel blablabla
Never had this stuff with meter taxis before. Think i still have that complain form they give you. Maybe i will send it in.

hate tuk tuks as much as the next guy but think the bad rep is more down to the drivers' manner and the overt monopoly element rather than just the rip off

other rip offs (pretty much anything really) are tolerated far more easily and corruption is liked where the advatage is easily seen (pussy, bar openings or whatever)

maybe its just that when they have you over a barrel tuk tuk drivers don't smile like the others

is being ripped off more acceptable when the Thai maintains the facade of the 'superior farang'

i was talking about their bad rep

whilst the reason for the monopoly may explain their manner, prices, lack of alternatives etc. for most i imagine the effects are more important than the reason

for people working in tourism related businesses in Phuket the reason might be something they choose to get angry about but thats not going to change anything

Given that the TTM are responsible for a lack of a direct songthaew service between Patong and Karon/Kata (and by progression, Kamala and Surin Beach), we have every right to be angry and to boycot them.
