Provincial Governor's are appointed by the Interior Ministry, not elected. Except for Bangkok Provence.

Another example of this self admission.....

You're on to me...555

But you must admit that its ironic that they have these clampdowns on 2.00am closing every now and then.... and yet are now looking to extend the closing time...

Seems if they extend the closing time to 4 am the clampdowns need to be after 4.

I just wish everyone would go out earlier. Having to wait til 11 to start a night out is ridiculous and screws you up for a few days afterwards. And when you do go out the girls have got their dinner on the bar because they couldn't be ersed to eat earlier, grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr.

All people on holiday end up doing is sleeping through the day because they're too knackered to go to the beach, visit other places etc. Lets get back to being able to go out and have a good time starting at 8pm- if you want to stay out late there's always places that can accomodate you. It's all about choices- yes stay out til dawn if you want but give us sleepyheads a chance as well! 24 hour opening would never work- it would just confuse the girls!

Seem to recall there was a strike by a lot of the bars back in the early '90s to get the opening hours extended, loads of bar girls sat under a big open tent down on the football pitch near the beach. Lasted for a few days not a drop of alcohol in sight, was great fun to see have some photos somewhere at home.

We close 2 am - 2.30 am few times a year when we have a VIP in town, which may last for 1-3 days. Otherwise, no closing time really. I closed 4.30 tonight and during peak season 5-6 am was not uncommon.

And mind you, my bar is early closing compared to many others.

Phuket Gazette Readers' Poll: 2am best closing time for Patong
PHUKET TOWN: Opinion on the best closing time for bars and other nightlife entertainment establishments in Patong varies widely, but overall 2am was the most popular closing time according the results of the latest Phuket Gazette Readers’ Poll.

In the poll, readers were asked: What do you think is the best closing time for nightlife venues in Patong?

Possible answers were: midnight, 1am, 2am, 3am, 4am and 5am.

Of these, 2am was the most popular response at 24.7%.

The second most popular choice was midnight (16.9%), followed by 4am (16.0%), 5am (14.9%), 3am (13.9%) and 1am (13.6%).

The 2am option is notable in that it is the de facto closing time in Patong, when Kathu Police typically begin to make their rounds.

A breakdown by demographics revealed a clear difference of opinion between Thais and foreigners.

Almost half of respondents (45%) identifying themselves as Thais thought midnight was the best closing time, compared to just 14% of people identifying themselves as resident expats or tourists.

They all read the gazette, If a Thai language publication did it ...the midnight close option would have won by a country mile. IMHO.
