designers and architects bidding for the project have allegedly been asked for kickbacks as high as 41 percent from state officials. A total of 2.6 billion baht has been allocated to the project

And you wonder why things can be expensive in Thailand.

Isn't this the project they have already thrown millions at for studies only to be told the results weren't good enough and told to throw more millions at the studies. And that is before this latest line up at the trough.

On the theme of corruption
Quote:
Thaksin is indeed desperate to make some headway in his struggle to protect his assets now frozen by the state. The Supreme Court will rule on February 26 whether the Bt76 billion in assets should be permanently confiscated for undue self-enrichment and questionable wealth.
...
It is known that the funding for the rallies has been provided by Thaksin and his cronies, but the bulk of the war chest has been siphoned off by the threesome to enrich themselves - so much so that their wealth has become conspicuous and they are now the subject of jeers among the insiders.

Thaksin's grand scheme crippled by internal rivalries - Nationmultimedia.com
So the efforts to undermine the corruption trial is being under-minded by corruption of the war chest funds. Layers and layers. Got to love it.

I would like to see the Thai definition of "undue self-enrichment".
Does it mean 'the other guy got more than me so it's unfair' ????
