Bad news for the Poms

I seen the article in todays paper.
Sad news for the poms, it looks like the end of the great happy hour.

BRITISH pubs are to ban happy hour drinking promotions where drinkers consume large amounts of alcohol cheaply and quickly.

The British Beer and Pub Association said its 32,000 members would ban happy hours and drink-all-you-can schemes immediately.
Binge drinking has become a major problem in Britain and has turned many town centres into virtual no-go areas on Friday and Saturday nights.

I like the pattaya "happy hours", they start at 2pm and stop at 2am, now thats a happy hour.

To be honest i thinks its a good thing for Britain!

The amount of people drunk and starting trouble on friday and saturday nights across most towns and citys, is at epidemic proportions. Personally i don't think it is the happy hour that is the cause, but bar's that have the pay £5 on the door and every drinks £1, is more of a problem. Also the rise of the Weatherspoon chain is another major cause (The group stopped "happpy hour" promotions a while back anyway) because they sell cheaper drinks all day anyway.

Then again, the basball cap wearing 16yr old, can just go to supermarkets and buy the same quantity of beer/vodka from there cheaper anyway!

But at least its a step in the right direction. The thing which has to be changed is the culture, not just the prices!

Well said Andy

Laziness and irresponsibilty are rewarded, hard work is penalised.

Latest pension joke by chancellor is that ''professional'' people will not be able to claim a pension until they are 70. Seems odd that they are the ones who have paid most to the government by way of taxes.

It's a token gesture to appease crusading politicians and Daily Star readers. There is a price war raging on our high streets that means it is cheaper to drink in town now than it was 20 years ago, in relative terms.

I agree it is more culture than anything else, and it's nothing new either. Young Anglo Saxon men have been drinking and fighting since before Australia was 'discovered'.

The licensed trade is too powerful, and too clever, to be beaten down by anybody. There is no way that the town centres will be 'reclaimed' for nice people. We will just drink elsewhere at the weekend and local pubs are doing well again already.

You will never separate a Brit from his beer.
