Tsunami survivors to be treated by Premier League 'soccer clinic'
PHUKET, May 23 (TNA) – Young Thai people in the country's southern resort provinces of Phuket, Krabi and Phang-nga who survived from the last December tsunami are preparing for a ‘soccer clinic’ by players from three English Premier League teams on 21 July.
Today the scheme was kicked off when representatives from Everton, Manchester City and Bolton arrived in Phuket to approve the selection of Phuket’s Surakul Stadium as the venue for the one-day soccer camp.
The three teams will also play against the Thai national squad in July, making a flying visit to Phuket in between.
Mr. Iem Thawormwongwong, who heads the Phuket Sports Association, said that the coaches from the three English teams would offer training to around 400 young tsunami survivors on 21 July.
The scheme would not only help boost the province’s tourism industry, but would also allow young players to learn new techniques, he said.
The English players are said to be satisfied with the stadium although further work will be needed to prepare accommodation, security measures and transportation.
Last year the stadium hosted the World Under-19 Women’s Football championship. (TNA)
