Immigration arrest British Go-Go bar owner without work permit

Immigration Police arrest Englishman suspected or managing a go-go bar without a work permit

PATTAYA: -- Police Captain Jackgrit from Pattaya’s Immigration Department assembled a team of officers and went to the Diamond Go-Go Bar in Soi Diamond off of Walking Street after receiving information from an informant that an English Man was managing the bar without a work permit.

Police arrested Mr. Richard Clearland aged 56 who Police suspected was the Manager of the venue.

Joining him at the Immigration Department was Khun Akaradet the license holder. Both fully cooperated with officers who charged Mr. Clearland with working in the Kingdom of Thailand without a Work Permit. It was not made clear to us the penalties the bar and Mr. Clearland will face.

Walking Street Beer Bars closed by Pattaya’s Chief of Police in Late night raid

PATTAYA: -- It is widely known in Pattaya that after the go-go bars and disco’s close Beer Bar’s normally remain open, sometimes all night, should you wish to continue your evening drinking and enjoying the nightlife of Pattaya. Although these beer bars and strictly breaking the law, this practice has been tolerated by Police until now.

Police Colonel Somnook, Pattaya’s Police Chief was on patrol along Walking Street at 4am when he noticed beer bars still serving alcohol. He decided to stop them serving and arrested the offending bar managers.

We understand that three bars along the street received particular attention and the managers of each were taken back to Pattaya Police Station along with one foreign man charged with public order offences after he had said a little too much to one of the officers.

It is unclear if this is a new policy of Pattaya Police to ensure that Beer Bars close at the same time as other venues or whether this was a one off and raids such as these will not happen again.

Drank myself stupid many a night on Walking st...and many other soi's for that matter.

Like many times, the MIB will show they are doing something to curb the late night activities for a short while, then pretty soon the bars will be back to all night drinking.

Especially a few other soi's in pattaya which I won't name

I just hope this is not a start of new crackdown on bar owners without work permit.

7-8 years ago bar owners in Phuket could be deported if they e.g. changed CD in the bar and so on.

Gee mentioned that during the recent duty paid l;abel checks.. If a bar came up clean and the owner was behind the bar they pestered him for his WP.. Common practice to 'manage your investment' in bars may be getting tougher...

Cant remember if he said they actually busted anyone on this issue or just made the threats..

keep a copy of ur detailed licence at the bar. My bar allows seating inside its clearly designated. Can show the men in brown this, ergo can do nothing about me at the bar. Also good idea to appoint a thai bar manager and let it be publicly known. Also all bills and invoices are checked and signed by my thai manager, thus showing he has operaional management responsibility

G's case is slightly different, a company is running his bar. Most people just have their gf's on the papers. It may be the reason why they asked for his wp.

But it may be a good idea to keep low profile anyway and avoid doing staff work, which I never do.

You dont even need to do staff work to have a problem
Even if you are behind your bar you can get into trouble .

Also you as the Farang at all times must have your own Bar Bill always at the bar to be shown if the boys in brown visit - Crazy Idea but true ...

The rules of the bar and Farang bizz in thailand its pretty crazy its like they dont want farang here doing bizz, its a complete put off but they want the Farang Money rolling in !

This is nothing new, the mentality has always been this way.

First rule of running a bar, never get caught behind the bar or doing anything.

Second rule, which amazes me how many farang break and most arent even aware of, is keeping non tax labeled bottles in the bar. Doesnt matter if they are not on display, just being stored on the premises is a no no.

(but thats another story)..anyways..all the farangs that were partners/shareholders never did any work and always had thier bar tabs in front of them ..good work if you can get it..this was back in the 1980's so these laws have been in effect for a long time...
