Fake goods make a real good fire
Fake goods make a real good fire
PHUKET CITY: Some 180,300 items of counterfeit goods, worth an estimated 37 million baht, went up in smoke in a mass burning at the solid waste incinerator at Saphan Hin on Tuesday.
Presiding over the incineration was Pol Lt Gen Boonrith Rattanaporn, Assistant Commissioner of the Royal Thai Police, accompanies by Phuket Governor Udomsak Uswarangkura and Phuket City Mayor Somjai Suwannasuppana.
Also at the cremation was Phuket Provincial Police Chief Maj Gen Suwit Othong, who explained that all the goods going up in flames had been confiscated in raids in Patong and Karon over the past three and a half years.
“If anyone notices counterfeit goods being hawked, they should call Phuket City Police Station at 076-219071,” Gen Suwit added.
Gen Boonrith explained that Phuket is one of five “red zones” in the country where fake goods are sold openl y, and that the mass incineration was part of an ongoing "war against counterfeit goods".

I said "what about under the counter"?.......NO was he's reply.
There is also a big crack down on copy Tshirts (billabong, ripcurl, etc) but he did find a couple well under the counter.

Unless it has changed alot since i was there a few months back. I can't see this new 'clamp down' having much effect if any!
As most know that all the dodgy stuff is sold either from false comparments or from rooms away from their shops.
As the article says, all the stuff burnt was goods taken in raids over the last 3 half years. The people i buy my watches from have always put a look-out outside to look for Fuzz!
Though that said, the quality of watches i was able to find was down and there were a lack of t-shirts which i wanted, on sale. But at the time i just put that down to the tsunami for some reason!

The clampdown HAS had quite an effect.. 2 of my best DVD sellers have given up due to too many fines and payments to the MiB..
PC CD stalls from the side of the road seem to be going.. In fact I need an XP corp disc and a MCE2005 and have been casually looking for a couple of weeks.. while theres PC games and apps in a couple of places I know even something as simple as an XP disc has left me struck out..

I bought Media Center Edition 2005 not long time ago and I am sure they still have it and other XP versions available.
Copy DVD/CDs is still available in Patong, just to clearify for others here who dont know or think the crackdown wipe it out, it doesnt.

I'll second that, you just need to know where. I brought a copy of XP with SP2 built in, but it turned out to be a release candidate. Caused more bloody trouble than it was worth.

I know its not a wipe out.. And I also know (I think) most of the hole in the walls but I have had serious bad luck with the last 2 or 3 XP discs.. All bad secors and bad copies (fail on install).. Had a HW failure and needed WRC (win rescue console) but the best one I had (early 6 in 1, still my fave as no SP1 or 2 issues and you can always re/dl and all keygens and cracks worked) was leant out never to return (the whole WRC thing was missing from all the rest of the discs I got)..
However the lack of availablility of OS was a shock to me.. Apps are there.. Games are there.. Getting a good XP version has proved tougher than I thought...
