Police press for Talbot to be tried for murder

PHUKET CITY: Kathu Police today turned over to the Provincial Public Prosecutor’s Office the case file on Paul Chetwynd-Talbot, who stands accused of the murder of his girlfriend, fellow Briton Debra O’Hanlon, on July 31.

Chetwynd-Talbot has been held in custody since he surrendered at the Kathu Police Station on the evening of August 3 and confessed to killing 31-year-old Ms O’Hanlon.

Chetwynd-Talbot, 32, told the Gazette from a police cell after his arrest that the killing was unintentional. He said that, during a drunken argument, he threw Ms O’Hanlon onto the bed in the couples’ room at the Eric Guesthouse on Nanai Rd, accidentally breaking her neck and killing her. Her body was discovered the following day.

Pol Col Teeraphol Thipjaroen, Superintendent of Kathu Police Station, told the Gazette, “When he was first arrested, he confessed to hav ing killed Ms O’Hanlon. But on the advice of his lawyer, he has refused to comment further during the police investigation, saying he would prefer to speak only before the court.”

Col Teeraphol said that police have recommended Chetwynd-Talbot be tried for murder, basing their case on evidence from fingerprints, interviews with friends of the couple, and Chetwynd-Talbot’s personal diary.

“Ms O’Hanlon’s family urged us not to allow Talbot out on bail, and we have already passed this recommendation along to the Court,” he added.

Col Teeraphol said he expects Chetwynd-Talbot to appear before the Phuket Provincial Court within a week, after which time it will be up to the Public Prosecutor to consider all the evidence and decide on the specific charges to be laid.

WHEN i saw the thread heading i lost half my body weight (a few tonnage) i know my jokes are bad but i thought thats a bit harsh. I have been keeping on the staraight and narrow recently and even avoided replying to the thread about a ss licking because i knew my fellow Bald geezer Irish Jonny would cover that adequately, and was i rifgt quick as a flash he was able to give the guy the old thread that covered this interesting subject. well done jonny semms our hairstyles are not the only thing we have in common although when i am practising this act i definately dont want to see a pair of balls dangling underneath or i might well .: be tried for murder.

After copious amounts of lager, a man with a celtic accent might say "I COULDN'T HALF MURDER A PIE !!" but to un-trained local ears it might just sound a little more ominous !! 55555 !!

Nothing to update..

Hes in Thai jail.. Being tried for murder not manslaughter.. No bail..

Looks like he will be found guilty, (though it would be manslaughter in the west) due to evidence and no money to influence anything..

I dont know.. Out here things are just so variable.. influence, money, connections etc can all change everything..

I shouldn't really say this publically but I was phoned in the first day or so after he turned himself in.. The caller made it clear that if some money was put into the right hands quickly the charges could have been very different.. Some (relatively small amount IMHO) immediate money would have meant it was a manslaughter charge and a much larger amount could possibly have made it all fall apart.. Now if that offer would have worked, if that was a squeeze the farang trick, no one would know.. Just the realities of the Thai systems.

I have to admit, that this is one of the things that really bugged me living there. If you did fall foul of the law, you would never really know where you stood, as it is such an uneven playing field as far as us farang are concerned.

There were even stories that I heard of crazy motorbikes riders deliberately hitting cars driven by farangs, just so that they could demand money for the settlement. And why would you not pay, if it meant that you kept out of the legal system.

Thanks for the update.
Would like to be kept in touch, Debbie was my daughter and she did not derserve this, even if it was a mistake on his part, at 32 years old he should be able to control his temper, also he could have at least tried to get some help not leave her to be discovered three days later.

I kinda assumed so Pat.. I have heard your name in passing and I know that one of my close mates (Richie) was close to you during your visit here.. I know its all odd circumstance but I had just helped another Board member (Gee) repatriate his niece who was killed here and voulenteered to assist but we never met..

If it means anything at all Debs was one hell of a woman !!! I talk a mile a minute (especially the later the evening goes) and Debs was one fo the few people who I had a Hard time butting in on (damn that girl could talk

).. Also my surname is Hanley derived from O'Hanlon (of Castletownbere on the Bera in SW Ireland) and so obviously Debs and I had quite the connect on that..

However even though I knew they had what can only be described as a turbulent relationship they were both my friends.. I know you must hate Paul for what has happened but this is ultimately the ruin of 2 lives even if one is still here, and was caused by his hand..

Well done for raising such a woman of such character.. She was much loved here.. A farang girl in this town needs to be a handful, shrinking violets dont get much attention, and Debs certainly was one in a million.. RIP Debs.

Thanks for your message, Iagree it is the loss of two lives, however, it takes so long to get information to us over here.
Seems unbeliveable that her Dad and I were in Thailand a year ago, and were there for the Boxing Day disaster, we all walked away from that one. However thanks for your thoughts on Debs. If you here anything else would appreciate being kept in touch.
