Farang stabbing in Seadragon.
First off I was not there to see this so the story is murkey and has been relayed by drunks..
Seems some guy was stabbed at the end of Seadragon last night. Version I heard was that he was stabbed by a thai guy 3 or 4 times.. One mate of mine was on the scene and tried to assist him but so the story goes he didnt have much chance. I have been told the guy died at the scene.
Happened some time around midnight (definately before 12:45 - 1am when another mate arrived and the whole situation was over).. Seems like an oldish guy 50 - 60 ish and no one is aware of any motive more then probably drunken bullshit...
Not able to verify any of these fact this is just what I have been told. Anyone hears more post it.

i walked past about 12.30 and something had happened. Huge crowd including Police in the middle of Bangla opposite Sea Seadragon. Just thought it was probably a fight so didn't hang around.

Strange, I do not like the end of seadragon. Only place I never felt really save, don't know why.
Always felt confortable in Soi Eric, maybe it is the lightening.
People are strange...

Spoke with Alisdair (the editor of the gazette) so the story goes now..
The man (an Austrian) grabbed a knife from a knife seller and stabbed himself twice killing himself.. They (the police) are calling it a suicide and claim to have multiple witnesses who all have this line..
Now my information was that a Thai guy stabbed him.. That was from someone on the scene and one of my mates tried to resicitate him and perform emergency first aid on the scene (he has some basic first aid training) so they were there.. Draw your own conclusions.
I will try and get to have a beer with people that were there soon and see if they were actually eye witnesses or if it was rumour.

I agree, I just told what Thai newspaper wrote.
But I wonder why they would cover this up, because it was a farang tourist and not a Thai who got killed?

Do they have any CCTV's in that area ?.......If they do, they were probably "out of order" at that particular moment.

Might depend on who the ''Thai'' was. Well connected or enough cash to pay the police to come up with the suicide theory.
Killing farangs is also bad publicity at a time when that is the last thing they need.

I think it would be pretty hard to stab yourself with enough force to kill yourself unless unlucky, so obviously cover up. I wonder if this is just an arguement, the guy pi$$ed off the thais or whatever and a face saving reaction to stab him. The other more worrying would be if the thai guys are getting pi$$ed off that farang have big money and choose any woman, i've seen them very ready to react to only very slight provocation and wondered if this is their way or the opportunity to get back at the farang.

If this is all true and there is a witchhunt on Farangs acoming I guess the only response would be....to organise oneselves. It is always more difficult to attack 10 than one, it is less likely to get killed if you have numerical superiority. This is speculation on my part, I´m not sayin that this is the best solution. Still I wonder what the alternative may be? What you have posted and what Stickman has leads me to the assumption that a lot of Thai police officers are biased and basicly corrupt (This coincides with my own observations in the LOS). So you cannot rely on them if bad gets to worse...
Thus in the end it´s up to you or us to come up with a solution...a robust one I reckon.

Hi Nicke,
They maybe cover it up not to scare more tourists away.

IMHO if that's what's going on then it won't help if you're ten or twenty, they'll alwyas be more in numbers... And if that's the case I think very few people will go there... On the other hand, as I understand lots of people in patong depend on the tourism, so why would they want to hurt their feeding hand?? makes no sense...

I really hope that this is a one off incident and that the farang had done something to upset the Thai/s involved. If it isn’t a one off and it was just a reaction to Farangs, and that poor bugger just happened to be in the wrong place at the wrong time, then the message that the MIB are giving to Thais is that there won’t be much trouble if you waste the odd farang is not a good message for us.
If I have to walk around in numbers to feel safe I won’t be going there .
That is one of the things that draws me to Patong and Thai in general, as I mostly travel alone, is that I can go where ever and when ever I want and feel safe. I wonder around freely all through the night sometimes going from place to place and occasionally cutting through parking areas etc (behind soi Katoey) of a night.
I have never had any trouble doing this in Patong, Bkk or Pattaya, maybe I am lucky or naïve, I don’t know but I do not want to have to change how I move around when I am LOS as the local Thai men have decided that it is time to have some retribution against Farang.
Any more first hand info on this would be appreciated.
