Karon Felix Hotel
Well............my first thread! "bare with me" myself and a few friends are due to fly to phuket in a couple of weeks , the guy who has organised this little jaunt has booked us all into the above hotel for our stay, Whats it like? I now discover it's a cab ride from what seems to be "all the action" I get the feeling this hotel is more of a family oriented establishment, is this so? if it is then how will revelers of our disposition be viewed by the staff, However It looks a really nice place. Also I hear this is the low season, are there any drawbacks to being there this time of the year? will we still have the good time everyone talks about on this MB, anyone with any views post a reply, it will be appreciated.

All action is in patong this time of the year, Karon/Kata is a dead place. But don't worry, Patong is only 20 minutes away and relaxing on the beach in Karon is not bad.

you will still love it
Hey man dont worry you will still have a great time. If you hire a bike then you can come and go from patong whenever it suits you and it will be much cheaper than tuk tuk. other wise just go through some previous threads on this forum to see what you will expect to pay for the tuk tuk ride to karon.

i don't know for your hotel, just had a look at http://www.felixhotels.com/karonphuket/index.html, it looks like a family hotel to me wich isn't the cheapest i've ever seen, i hope they won't charge you extra for bringing a girl 4 the night.
The first time i came to Thailand was with my parents... they used 2 sleep the room next to mine, wich i shared with my lil bro.
If i had a girl... where could i go? Not to my room, my bro was sleeping there , so what i did....
I was lucky my 1st TG ever had a house, so we went to her house.
With other girls i used to go to a cheap hotel (200/300b a night) and stayed there for the night, the girls know the best places! Just ask...
Staying in Karon would be no problemo, as the other board members already noticed.... quiet environment, just a few minutes by cab/motorbike from they action,
i would recommend to hire a mb (150b a day), you are much more free to go where you would like and explore more of the island than only Karon, Kata & Patong

Thanks for the prompt response guys, It's pretty much as I expected it to be, I'm sure we'll still have an absolute ball, there are twelve of us about to decend, "The Dirty Dozen" and some of these guys are serious party animals. I have never been to Thailand and am looking forward to it, The guys at work and I have been visiting the webcam for the Mai Thai Bar and we intend to visit the bar to wave at our mates stuck at work whilst we are there.............Sick I know!!

Web Cam Wave
You wouldn't believe how many people stop at the cam and pull out the mobile. Might be a bit loud for a talking but you can use a text message. Ask Nicke, owner, barteners Tid and Na or the often cashier, the Lovely Pen to show you where to stand. Right in the middle about a meter back from the BarKeepers station will get you a good view.. A little bit of delay and depending on your mates connection there may be some reload blank on their screen.
Shite, more that one BG have phone appts with one of their million BF's to say hello.... Lets see, there was Miss Ploy at 11 pm on Wed etc.
Nock a few back and watch out for Nickes Turkish Peppers....Ask for Nok, buy her a lady drink and she'll tell you the low down on the talent. Tell her Jimmy sent ya!

karon hotel
to craig
just a few points about the reply's and question.
can you change your hotel . why !
micheals idea, it may be a family hotel. you could be paying double price for your guest and that's if they allow you to bring them back to the hotel. i stayed in a family hotel for 3 days in patong which was included in my flight ( horizon beach resort , rip off place) they wanted 1000baht for a guest per night lucky i booked after hotel before i left england.
The actions all in patong. why be 20minutes away when you can be on the door step of the action. loads of hotels in patong that are nice, and guest friendly that you don't habve to pay to much for a guest and 12 blokes your sure to get a really good deal this time of the year.
with djaust suggestion of getting a bike to go back to hotel in karon after a night on the beer, that hill on the way to karon. i'm no stunt driver to do that late at nite .
Twelve blokes going back to a hotel in karon or where ever someone's bound to go missing on the way because i'm sure you will not all be ending the night at the same time and the tuk tuk drivers are not the best for telling them your hotel when you've been drinking. Lot safer to get a hotal in patong that even a pissed bloke can stagger back to unaided.

i am just back and i booked a hotel in kata just past karan.its nice place in day but shit for nite life and about 20 mins tuk tuk from patong.also i had to pay a fine to hotel of 1000 baht to take girl into my room, and apprently a lot of hotels in that region do that as its trying to get a couples thing going on.as a result on day 2,yes day 2 (you will understand after you have been to patong),i moved from my hotel in kata to c & n which was a third of the price and saves you a fortune in tuk tuks and time,as it is at the end of the bangla road in patong, and in my opinion the rooms where better, only a bit smaller.
if you can change hotels and plan on doing patong i recomend c & n.i wouldnt go back to kata, other than for the beach in the daytime as it has best beach.but hey if you goto patong every nite you aint gonna see much of the day.
steve
and unfortunately if you visit mai thai you wont bump into the lovely pen,she is off to switzerland for 3 months, but i will be back to see her in september.

cheap hotels
www.latestays.com will get you there...The cab drivers from the airport will want to sell you a hotel...Do your homework and have a print of latestays....ask for a better price...you'll prpbably get it now! Stay in Patong......the action zone! As Nicke says...They are dead right now......I was over in Kata a few weeks ago...
Nothing happening.....

Hope you all have a good time wish i was there right now, you really should consider re-locating to patong cos thats where your gonna go every night. Sure think the hotels will be less at this time of year in patong and make sure you book your own room in hotel with no joiners fee. Your not going to like it waking up to your best mate every morning , believe me.Have a good time anyway.

c & n is 500 baht a nite at mo,and is that price rite thru to end of september as i have reserved a room for 1st 3 weeks of september.i just hope it will be busy there in september as it is very quiet there at mo.i got there 1st week of may and it was ok but over 16 days i really noticed the drop off of the tourists.not many people and a few bars where shutting, but lots of women which made up for it.
any 1 no wot september is like weather and tourists wise?is there a lot of ppl there then?are the bars all open and is there a lot of women like there is at mo?
im not one for the hectic december and january times,i like some space, and also the thought that the girl you are banging mite be on her first lay of the day instead of her 3rd or 4th .got told some pretty mad stories about how many blokes some of the women where shagging in peak season per day and it was frightening.

Sept Weather
Many a chart shows September as the wettest month....which supposedly leads to low tourism....I've found that last two to be not so bad...some rain and a bit of flooding....As to the tourist load '01 was the NYC attack on the free world but so you can't figure that and Sars but I can tell you that Sept '02 was dead. There were so few people I had to be Papa at MTB....They had plenty of Mekong and Food at the bar every night!
When it rains outside have a dollie inside! End of that Problem.
As per many Patong business people, incl. Nicke, little brief Iraqi thing didn't show it self in hotel counts but SARS was the killer....

September is not bad, but usually the rain season starts end of september and continue into beginning of November. But last year was unusually dry that time but we had rain late december; christmas and new year instead.
Two years ago we had flooding in september/october; but it is still no problem because its just heavy raining for maximum few hours and then ok and the water disappear quickly. Still hot and comfortable.

so nicke,i can expect the same sort of amount of people there as there was when i was there?
i dont mind it like it was then as there are lots of women to men,and not to crowded.
also i read a lot of bars are shutting, while they be reopened by then?or will more close?
thxs steve
