Live music in Patong

The last time I was in Patong,(Oct,05) there seemed to be a lot of advertising for new live music venues on Beach Road opposite the park and restaurant area. Can anyone tell me if it has actually come about and if so is it any good? I love the music scene in Pattaya and would like to see an alternative "sport" in Patong.

Cool Rock City

The venue you are asking about is Rock City and it opened at start of November but had a screw up with licences so had no music for a while. It is now open again and is bringing in foreign bands to play.

Just down the street there is also a new Jazz and Blues bar.

I have not been to either as I heard through the grape vine that the booze prices are a little steep.

The live music in Patong is not that great, unless you happen to get lucky and catch flow when they are on the island. I saw them do an incredible performance on soi Bangla at beginning of December. The road was closed and they put their stage right in the road. Must have been a few thousand people rocking out there that night.

Sefton whats the name of that bar that stays open real late and plays cover songs? Was it Tam's. It was cool to listen to them for awhile, just way to hot in there. And I got tired of hearing "Hotel California". They do have a foosball table though too.

You are either their biggest fan , or have a commercial interest as you mention them in the majority of your posts.

There are a few place on beach road, both near Banana disco. One is a philipino band that does covers. I saw them first in 2000 and then again in 2004 and 2005. They are not bad, a good place to have dinner and drinks and relax under the moon light.

Cheers,

Ashley

As far as financial interests go, I don't think they make enough money to have a financial interest in it themselves

No, I am a fan. Not the biggest fan of course, I mean if The Stones or U2 were dropping through Phuket from time to time, I would mention that in my posts as well, but they are not. I like flow sure, but I mention them in my posts because they are the only REAL band in Thailand and by far the only good band that regularly visits Phuket. I feel compelled to mention them if someone needs to know where the live music is.

Another post , another plug .

Strange that you somehow manage to mention them in the majority of your posts , but very seldom join in with other topics.

I must admit I think the cover band (all Thai musicians) are pretty good and definietely my kind of music - stays open late too - as does Tum's bar (waiting for LiL to introduce me there).

In my opinion Margarita bar is a great place. It’s a bar with a live band and they are really good. Corner of the right end of Bangla means no distance to other bars and I always went back with the lucky one for a beer or two and some food before sleeping time or whatever we will do

Mate, I am interested in music, particularly good live music and if it so happens that in this lovely country so rich in so many wonderful things that there is only one band worth seeing, then there aint much else to post about. Who is your favourite band in town, and if you mention them are you giving them a plug. What is up with you anyway?

Does anyone know the time the band that plays out in front of Banana Disco starts and ends? Also, are they still doing the Elvis show (I hope not). Thanks.

Galaxy used to have entertaining Thai show bands with a few hot dancers to boot. Its mainly a Thai hangout, but a good place to bring the tilac. Not sure what the scene is like now since Galaxy changed locations. Anybody know how it compares to the old place?

I park down there sometimes so this is a guess based on walking by. Usually they are going by 9:30 and wrapped up by midnight.

Went to Rock City a couple of times last week and I have to say the bands were really good and had a great night out, probably spend a few more nights there on my next trip.
