Phuket Nightlife - Soi Gonzo

Just a quick observation. Ive been to Patong for several years and I must say that Soi Gonzo has finally got its act together. The irritating problem of competing music is no longer as they now have one music for all bars. The girls at most bars seem very very friendly and the less hardened than others in Patong. I would recommend taking a walk down this Soi and checking out the bars here. Ive tried The Lips, Black Cats, Martini and all so far have came up trumps for entertainment and prettiness of the girls.

I quite like Soi Gonzo and often wander in there. I know the cashier and a BG who work in the Stock Exchange bar (first on right as you enter from Bangla Road). I know them from when they worked another bar in Soi Crocodile and now I know the 2 Aussie brothers who own it as well, good lads both of them.

Will check it out - Soi Gonzo used to be a running joke with the lads, "lets go down Soi Gonzo and pick a bar" was like a dare to see who would get the roughest old maid :^)

I used to like it way back when as it's the best place to play the nail game.

I also think it is becoming better now since Aussie Bar took the front, the street is more visible now and may benefit the soi. So many people have never seen Soi Gonzo due to the small entrance.

Nicke is exactly right..

Of old Gonzo had the small entrance and so people just kind of missed it.. When they started the work on the Aussie bar I said it would change the flow of people with the additional visibility.. Should have been done a long time ago by the soi owners themselves..

My friends and I always spend a few hours each night while we are on tour in Soi Gonzo...especially Lucky Night Bar(1st on Left)...

Its owned by a German fella..and he is always in a good mood...which flows onto his girls...

Used to drink at Black Cat ...but not anymore...they would use and abuse us with the bar cheque at the end of our drinking sessions..

Many times our bill would total to about 500-1000 more than what we expected..Being pissed didn't help...but after all the money we spent in the place..you tend to expect some respect...
Then again..they run a business..but one things for sure, they keep sending their spotters to entice us to go for a drink each time they see us at Happy bar(which is only one bar away)..

I was in Soi Gonzo last night...another great time. The Lips bar at the end has just been taken over by an aussie owner. He's a great guy and each night Ive been in the number of girls seems to be multiplying.

Lucky bar still 'lucking'good too!

I went down there last night and did what I always do in Soi Gonzo....walk down to the end and walk back out.

Oh wel, at the least the music was all the same.

spent of bit of time down there at one time, but not much on recent trips.

heard a rumour last time about most of that land is to bought by a major hotel chain, any of the expats heard that ?

aussie bars extensions have definately improved that bar itself and opened the view of gonzo considerably.

dont like that connecting laneway between it and crocodile some strange looking girls hanging around there.

Gonzo means a few different things.

Gonzo = bizzare, over the top, idosyncratic, mischievious, prankster, etc.

Gonzo Journalism is attributed to Hunter S Thompson and sums up a form where the journalist places himself in the center of the action and views the proceedings as an active participant. Also in the spirit that a good lie is often more honest than the truth.

Gonzo Porn is similarly porn where the camerman is involved in the action, usually low budget handycam.

I had heard that the word leads back to Irish drinking competition where the last man standing after a drinking competition / marathon.

I think that Gonzo is the only soi that i havent spent a night in. I don't know why but i think that the small entry to the soi is off-putting. Well to me anyway!

But then, I am generally to drunk when i get that far down.
