Just got back from 1st solo trip to Patong
Well I thought I better tell you all my story.
I just got back from a very short 5 days in Patong. Like the post from SMF, I also landed in Phuket Sat April 15th. After flying for almost 36 hours inculuding a 7 hour layover in Taipei and a 6 hour stop in Bangkok, so to say I was tired when I checked into the Safari is an understatement. Never the less, I showered and went straight to Bangla. I had every intention to drop by MTB but it was very crowed so I kept going and ended up at a bar in Tiger. As normal had a few beers and shots ended up talking to a girl, took her back to the Safari, where she handed in her ID but they treated her great. We had a great time, too great in fact. Since I was only there for 5 nights, I had planned on seeing a different girl every night, but there was something about this girl and I ended up spending the whole 5 nights with her. Even on my last night I told her I wouldn't be seeing her and I went out to a few other bars, it was the 2nd night of the elections so not everything was open till later, so I found a bar right on Bangla and had a bunch of drinks was going back with one of the girls but for some reason my little head took me back to Tiger to say goodbye one last time and yup you guessed it, I ended up taking the same girl back again.
I had a great time, in fact, I bought a condo while I was there and it will be finished in November so I think I will need to go back and check it out when it is done. I am also looking to get information on owning a beer bar, I know it is a lot of work and not always profitable, but I think it would a good life style for a few years. I have run a number of bars here in Canada so I know how much work it takes. All I really need to do is find something that would give me about 60,000 baht a month then I would move in a heart beat.
So my only 2 regreats are:
1) Never made it to MTB to have a drink with everyone
2) Even though the girl I was with was great, should of tried a few others..

Don't worry! MTB isn't going anywhere. It'll be there the next time.
As for the girl, sometimes(altho not often), the little head knows best. It seems to me as if this was one of those times. When you've got a good thing, why knock it! When the little head is not complaining, then it must be a good thing.
Sounds to me like you found the feeling of "Sabbai" with this girl. For a Thai person, that is the goal in life! When my little head is happy, I am "Sabbai," for sure!!

Thanks Jaybee, your right, when you have something great why chance it, who knows I might of ended up my last night with a dud or something, not likely in Patong, but it could happen.
Yes she certainly made my trip! But like I said now all I can think about is how can I get back to LOS and stay for ever. It is a long way from Canada.
Thanks to this board I can still live through all the other stories for the time being..

Could have ended up with a dud or a DUDE (aka ladyboy), it could happen! With 5 tours worth of experience(10 months total), I still had none night when I ended up with a LB last Feb.

After my first 3 tours, that is how I felt. It was sorrowful to leave LOS, when I got back had the blues bigtime, and all I could think about was how long it would be til I could return.
Now, as much as I still love LOS, I realize that I also love CA, and am pretty happy in between tours most of the time. I miss the Thai food, but I can get my fix at a good restaurant or at the wat on Sundays. The ony thing I really hate about being here in CA is that it is just ridiculous what you have to go through to get laid. We think we are a sophisticated, modern, civilized society, but the fact is that we are still an old-fashioned puritan country. The idea that it is illegal for two people to agree to have consensual sex with one party compensating the other for her time is absolutely insane. It is a purely religious artifact of a bygone era, but alive and well in so-called "modern" America. That is why LOS seems like a more sane, enlightened country to me.[/quote]

That comes with the territory. They have a way of sounding convincing too. It can get to you. I'm sure a good many of us have this situation to deal with, myself included.

1st, where in canada are u from, that flight seems way to log, maybe i can give you some better options
2nd-what type of work do you do now? only reason i ask is alot of people get caught up in patong and thats all they think about, getting back there. my advice would be, especially if you have a job that isnt your career and that you could get easily upon returning to canada, to just save your ass off until you have say 720kbaht(60k x 12 months) and move over there and figure things out

Hey Marc..
I am on the west coast, I flew out of Vancouver, but I had to fly Van to Taipei 12 hour flight with a 8 hour stop over, then to bangkok with a 6 hour stop over then to Phuket... The time before I flew out of LA (but I had to stay overnight in LA) and it wasn't as bad because I had 1 hour in taipei but it is still almost 18 hours to bangkok and normally get into bangkok and 1:00am and the first flight to phuket isn't till 6:30am..
i wish I could just quit my job but it would be hard to find something as good as I have if I came back.. I am a National Sales Manager..

Hey Ruby,
to answer your question "It would nice to know if you have been to LOS before. Enjoy!!!"
Yes I have been to LOS before, in fact I travelled all over Thailand, but this was my first trip solo as in no wife with me. I loved LOS before but now I have seen a whole new side to it, a side that I love!

Nice to meet you, also MT.
It is easier living in a nice climate. This week the weather here has been so great, I find myself wishing the weather in LOS was as nice as it is here!! Today, high of 78, low of 53, and sun, sun, sun, not a cloud in the powder blue sky!! Where I live the air is very good, no pollution, very little traffic. So when I walk out the door in the morning, I take a big breath of air, and it feels great, smelling sweetly of shrubs and trees in bloom.
If only we had BGS!!!!

here in Darwin we are coming into the dry season .....every day clear blue sky, temperatures of 30 degrees, cooling down to around 18 degrees at night ....superb..... in fact the weather here i think is the opposite way around to thailand's, both places being in the tropics each side of the equator ....
