Hello + Best Place To Watch Football?

First post so...

I'm Eddie from Manchester-way and this time next week (01/06) I'll be in a plane flying over to LOS. I'll stay in Bangkok for a few days but will then come down to Phuket for a couple of weeks. (First time in LOS and I'm counting-down the minutes.)

Heard rumours that there was a football competition starting soon - World Cup or something.....

Where in Patpong would be the best place to watch the games?

(Great site by-the-way. Found loads of useful info.)

Hi Eddie,

Do you mean Patpong in Bangkok or Patong in Phuket..................

If you mean Patong you wi have a choice of hundreds of bars.......they wil all be showing on cable.............you will need to check out time differences though as some games may be on when all bars are closed.............

Start at Mai Thai bar if you want some good company to watch with...but only a standard sized TV screen.....there will be others with big screens if you prefer

Any bar with a TV, and that doesnt leave too many out, will be showing the World Cup, as the Thais are soccer mad. Just wonder around and find a bar that you like, and call it home.

I would recommend Dream Bar on Bangla Rd, They have a big screen and if you ask them nicely they will turn off the music and higher up the sound with is a must for me, I hate watching the games without commentary, But if the sound does not bother you then you can watch it in every bar which has a tv or screen like the others have said....

Funny people those British. They go to Thailand to watch TV, and more spec. football on TV. I thought there were more interesting things to do there.

But even if we had qualified I would find more interesting things to do, or I would have organised my trip so that it was before or after the World cup.

Strange tastes you have, even worse than the Britsh. Who goes to Thailand to watch the toilets???
Or are you a peeping Tom watching women on the toilet? Sure you are not Japanese?

Oh, sory, you mean World Cup, I thought Water Closet.

That would be a good idea Nicke, Nothing worse for me then watching a match with no sound, Totally spoils the atmosphere for me, Actually one of the main reasons why I decided to come in July rather than late June, Didnt want to miss the footy...

Meant Patong but no doubt I'll check-out Patpong while in BKK

I know it sounds a bit daft to be watching football while in a place like Thailand but I couldn't miss-out on watching England win the World Cup and I'm unlikely to get this amount of vacation time again.

Ideally I'd like to be watching the games in a nice relaxed place with good cheap beer; not that bothered about the screen size. I'll have a few days to scout around before the WC starts but I'll defiantly drop into MTB.

One thing that worries me is that I know its the Low Season at the moment, but how empty/full will the bars be?

I think Costa Rica have got no chance! Togo on the other hand.....

Cheers
Eddie

Patong is great for soccer. Many of the BG like soccer also. My standard line when soccer is on is to ask them if they like soccer if yes buy drinks and snacks head up to the room and watch and PLAY!
Are there any taped delayed games last time I was watching some of the games at 4am and it was killing me? Aloha Andrew

I agree with you Wolfie, the MTB is the best, much like a guys club than a bar and you're right all the girls are great, especially one of them...55555

However I found the Aussie Bar, upstairs one of the best as they seem to have tv's everywhere and show all the different codes at once - all you have to do is park yourself infront of the 'code' you fancy, and say hello to Ying fro me if you go there...5555555

I actually have never stepped foot in the Aussie Bar, Never really appealed to me, Same way as Molly Molones and Scruffy Murphys dont, Although I was in Mollys once for a drink and Scruffys for breakfest, Other than that though always by-pass them...

Would like to know if the Aussie Bar does commentary on the footy though or whether they have music playing? As I said already it makes a really big difference for me...

I'm out of the country at the moment, is the WC on UBC or retricted to terrestrial like last time.

Also, LivinLOS, thanks for the tip, P.I. is far superior a forum to the PCTV

See you soon
