Talking PHUKET or KOH SAMUI??

Hi All,

My name is Mat, and im an Australian going wanting to travel in Thailand and just got some basic questions which i am hoping you could help me out with?

1) What is the best time of year (months) to travel to Thailand?
We are after the peak time, hot, tourists the lot.lol

and

2) Koh Samui or Phuket - in terms of a bunch of 6 22 year olds wanting to party and have fun, meet tourists etc etc which of these 2 would be the best selection.

I hope to hear from you soon.

Thanks!

Well obviously the traditional peak is Christmas/New Year, but also during Songkran in April. April is also the hottest time of the year

Patong would be the more livelier option, but depending on how long your trip is for, you can easily combine the 2 as there are direct flights pretty cheap.

Patong is on Phuket. Always best to do alittle self research when looking at holiday destinations.

Best times, refer to stevem's post

Koh Samui and Phuket are both great places... For the group of you, i'm sure it won't make that big a difference where you go... But from what i notice about phuket, is that the older crowd like to hang out in phuket (age 28 and up ) and in Koh samui you will find more people our age (18 - 27). Although they do come to phuket as well, but not as many...

Party area in Phuket is called (Patong)
Party area in Koh Samui (soi Green Mango) in Chaweng area
although Lamai does a pretty cool foam party from time to time...

Also you should look into the Full moon party which happens once a month in Koh Phangan (spelling could be off there)

Look it up on the net, theres loads of info. Then if you can't find anything ask...

I mean really, would you ask your mom where the milk is before looking in the fridge??? 5555555555

Like said before, you will have fun on both islands.

It will depend when you go, for the weather, as the best season in Phuket is december-May. Samui, not the same, better towards our summer months in Europe.

I think Samui is a bit better for younger people too, especially Chaweng. Lots of bars, pubs with music-bands playing at night, and much is happening ON the beach. If you are in Chaweng, everything is by hand. More tropical feeling, as long as you are not driving on the road.

More choice in Phuket for the BG's. But you can find as well a pretty one there.

The advantage of Phuket is, every beach, another athmosphere. Maybe I prefer Chaweng to Patpon, but strangely enough, I never felt that happy in Samui, proberly because I know better where to go in Phuket.

Why not interested in Samui..

Better clubs, better island vibe.. Good young tourist scene..

Definately worth seeing..

Also you can get to the FMP via boat from Surat Thani.. Can be done from Phuket without transiting Samui.

Or fly to Samui and speedboat over.. Much more convenient but also lots more money.. If adventourous you could rent a sportbike and cut ut the busses.. Much faster but not for the faint of heart or low Thai experience and skills.

Cheap
Quick
Easy

Pick 2

The FMP is def. worth checking out... and even if you never been to samui before i would recommend it... although personally i prefer phuket but samui does have its advantages... But then again both places are pretty similar.

Koh Samui is best to go during the summer times, lots of sun and low waves. Phuket ion the other hand is around april (songkran). it's peaktime so lots of people but also high room price and availability of rooms is limited.

for 6 22 years old guys, i recommend Koh Samui for a week then take a boat to Phangan (55 minutes) and stay there for a week or two for the Full Moon Party, also check out the magic Raggae Boat Trip. you'll love it there. young crowds, less BG.

Phuket is more lively with lot, i mean lots of bar girl and pretty much older farangs... 30 - 50 years old. but lots of places to go and buy. stay away from patong except for the Soi Bangla. i prefer Karon and Kata which is 5-10 minutes away. cheaper and less crowded and the chance of getting hassle by taxi mafia or nepalese shopkeeper is less.

I like to get in touch with peoples who are older than me.. because I'm not the typical 23 years old men.. and of course if I travel alone (what I now do of course, because its fun and you can do what ever you like) I think Phuket its better, because now I know some peoples there which I want to see again
