Okay, I was told by a nurse here in Canada that I shouldn't drink any beverages that have ice cubes in it...just because the water that they use to freeze it may not be purified & can cause severe diarhea, etc.....BUT, when I go to a bar..I love my cocktails...what do you all think of this???

I think they Use Bottled water in most of the bars to make the ice, so it shouldnt be a problem. I have never had a problem. Mind you I have been violently sick many times after having ten too many!!! Why is it you always get carried away in thailand! lol

Hi Jewelz.

The only ice cubes you shouldnt use, are the ones the girls in the go-go bars spit out from between their legs in the show.

You may get more the diarrhea :p

Ice that is safe should have a 'hole' thru it in Thailand. Been here a year now and never had a problem so i shouldnt worry.

You don't have to miss your cocktails. Everywhere you can take the ice-cubes.
I never had any problems with the ice in the drinks.

Ice (as in frozen water)

is generally very safe in places like Phuket. Almost everyone serving beverages to tourists buy their ice from the ice-factories. You will see the huge bags of ice being delivered in the evenings to all restaurants.

These ice cubes have, as stated above, a hole in it. This is the trademark of factory ice ( = 97% safe). If there is no hole, don't drink anything.

But as with everything nothing is 100% guarantee. A "friend", a woman, had a soft, cool drink while having a massage. She had to go to hospital due to dehydration. Four days spent at the luxurious hotel, no sorry, Hostpital (looks the same) isn't the best kind of vacation.

But in general, is there hole in the Ice, you are probably as safe as home!

I see that bottled water is the safe way to go just like Mexico, my only other trip out of the U.S. I see the Amari, my week of free hotel, has bottled water in the room. Shall I expect to see that as the norm or is that something that should be on my list of things to ask about when finding a hotel for my 2nd week?

Don't waste your money with any of the stuff in the hotel room fridge. Just stop in 7-eleven and pick up want you want.

But it really won't matter wether you get bad ice or not, you will most likely get at least a small case of the runs. Not to worry though, you will surely be able to find someone to help "clean" your backside.

You got to understand Mikes point of view, you see from where he and alot of others will be standing, there may not be enough time to close your mouth or turn away.

Wow.. All my experience tells me the local ladies are VERY hot...

the only thing i pulled out from a gogo girls legs was a length of string with fishing hooks on followed by a even more severe length of string with 4 inch nails on it.i couldnt stop laughing at which point i heard a strange but somehow familiar noise,i turned round to see a gogo girl playing a trumpet with har private parts.the thing that made me laugh was it sounded like the little hooters the street vendors used when walking down the street.every time i heard that from then on i couldnt stop laughing.

I'm not exactly sure which kind, but yes, I have seen it done. And, you can still find these shows; they are just not as open about them as they were just a few years ago.

international agogo still does the shows i think .
wont bore you with the details as most of you already know how to do it ,but still makes me smile when you things like a fish ,eel or a mouse pop out of their privates
yeah i know im sick but you have to look at the funny side of it aswell

i have never personally been ripped off,dunno about others.drinks are a bit more expensive and as for the shows,the ones i seen they walk around with a box after and ask for you to throw in some money,i usually bung in 2-300 baht.
